Despite buzz generated by the speculation that Oprah Winfrey may mount a presidential run, NBC on Sunday appeared it was already on board when the network called her “OUR future president” in a tweet.
On Monday, NBC removed the tweet and blamed a “third party agency” for sending it out.
“Yesterday a tweet about the Golden Globes and Oprah Winfrey was sent by a third party agency for NBC Entertainment in real time during the broadcast,” NBC said in a clarifying Twitter post. “It is in reference to a joke made during the monologue and not meant to be a political statement. We have since removed the tweet. ”
During Sunday’s Golden Globes, host Seth Meyers recalled how in 2011 he advised Donald Trump never to run for president and then joked: “I just want to say: Oprah, you will never be president.”
For some, NBC’s tweet wasn’t a laughing matter.
President Trump’s son Donald Jr. tweeted that NBC revealed the media bias against his father.
“In case anyone had any doubts about where the media stands this should take care of it. The bias against @realDonaldTrump is now so obvious they have simply given up hiding it,” he wrote on Twitter Monday morning.
