Conservative Republican Reps. Mark Meadows (N.C.) and Jim Jordan (Ohio) are calling on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to step down, citing recent leaks from the Justice Department and FBI.
"If Sessions can't address this issue immediately, then we have one final question needing an answer: When is it time for a new attorney general?" the two GOP lawmakers asked in an op-ed for The Washington Examiner.
"Sadly, it seems the answer is now," they continued.
"It would appear he has no control at all of the premier law enforcement agency in the world."
The lawmakers went on to cite a New York Times story, published last week, that referenced intelligence community sources as saying a meeting between former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos and an Australian diplomat kickstarted special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.
Republicans have long argued the unverified dossier compiled by former MI-6 agent Christopher Steele led to the probe.
President Trump and Republicans have said the probe is politically motivated.
Meadows and Jordan, the chairman and former chairman, respectively, of the conservative Freedom Caucus, have been two of the more vocal Republican voices to criticize special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russian election meddling.

Sessions, though a good Senator, is a disaster as AG.
Sessions looks like one of those long time Republicans who spends more time worrying about his Democrat buddies and liberal media liking him than doing anything of substance.
Lesson Learned: Being a Senator means you are basically USELESS for any other job on the planet.
Just more smoke. It’s becoming like the Wizard of Oz.
A huge travesty in all this is the fact that he left his senate seat to take on this job (and do it ineffectively) and now that seat is held by a Democrat.
I believe this squish, Sessions, voted for Doug Jones as Sessions’ Senate successor.
Weasel Mueller runs Rod Rosenweasel.
Rosenweasel runs Sessions and the DOJ-FBI.
When congress speaks, there is always an IF in their statement!
Sessions is our best hope as AG. He’s been doing a decent job lately, this is why he’s being attacked.
No way they would have let him become AG if they didn’t know in advance he would recuse on the election stuff.
No way they would confirm any new AG who would be better. Especially with only 51 votes in the Senate.
Rosenweasel becomes AG if Sessions resigns
I expect AG Sessions to throw out a little chicken feed(small acts involving little people and no Democrats).
That will distract many from his failure to go after the big issues.
TWB
Let's see... Senator Barack Obama: Check! Senator Hillary Clinton: Check! And that's just for starters!
Looks like you've got something there...
Chickensh*t !
I’m with you. I believe Sessions will surprise everyone when the hammer drops. I trust Trump. If Trump is happy with keeping him, then I figure things must be unfolding according to Trump’s plan.
Sessions won’t resign. His function is to hold that office so nobody else can occupy it, while throwing up his hands and pretending to be helpless to do anything against the enemies of the President and the people.
When the OIG report comes out and it shows the evidence of Collusion with the DNC/Illary Campaign, the coverup and corruption in both the DOJ and F_I and Sessions doesn’t act he needs to go.
Until then I am keeping my powder dry.
About the only thing Sessions was good for was as a placeholder in the Senate. He's been a year in his new job and accomplished next to nothing. Low "T".
