Man's obituary blames Cleveland Browns winless season as cause of death
WYMT ^ | January 01, 2018 | WYMT

The obituary published in the Sandusky Register says Paul Stark, of Huron, died Wednesday at a hospice facility after a brief illness "exacerbated by the hopeless condition of the Cleveland Browns." The football team was 1-15 last season and 0-15 this year ahead of Sunday's finale at Pittsburgh. Even so, Stark's obituary included a nugget of the optimism voiced by some long-suffering fans. It says the 80-year-old Mansfield native "passed just before the Browns were prepared to turn the corner."

I’ve always been more of a baseball guy. That said, I can empathize as my team is the Mets. :-(

Come on.

The Browns whiffed the season at 0-16. Stunk it up real bad.

What do you think he meant?

Tell me about it, I’ve gone through three Superbowl losses by the Vikings....

So Detroit fired there coach after making the playoffs 2 out of 4 years. Meanwhile, the Browns keeps Jackson after going 1-31. They have had something like 100 first round picks. Oh, and that great trade for Brock. They have some geniuses in that front office. How can a team be so bad for so long. Poor Baker Mayfield, probably headed to the Browns, where QB’s go to die.

Oh, and I am from Ohio and been a Browns fan for 50 years. Thank God for the Buckeyes.

I remember Brian Sipe.

So do I. Hired away from Cleveland by one Donald Trump as I recall.

The Rooney Rule: An NFL rule which makes it possible for a coach to go 1 and 31, and still keep his job.

Not to belittle Mr. Stark's passing, but seriously, was his death really just because of a stoopit Football team ???

I've often ranted about the idiotic "Football Mentality" many times on these boards, and this story is yet another example of some of the eye-rolling moronic 'anecdotes' that seems to come from the Football world so often ... and it isn't even funny, the poor guy is dead, most likely from natural causes and NOT just because his favorite Football team kinda sorta sucks ... SHEESH !!!

Otherwise, on a more humanistic note; Rest in Peace, Mr. Paul Stark ... surely you had a good life and accomplished many things in your life outside of watching NFL Football ...

It’s shocking that Jackson hasn’t been fired yet. Has any coach ever kept their job after such a dismal record? Sorry that the team has been so bad for so long.

1-31 W L record over 2 years.Sounds like the Browns coach does not even bother coming out of the locker room let alone stand for the anthem. How does this guy keep his job? Is he a union coach?

When Tampa Bay joined as an expansion team, they lost every game in their first two years, except for the last one of the second season.

“was his death really just because of a stoopit Football team”

No, it was just humorously cited as an “exacerbating” influence on his deteriorating health.

The Browns have been one of the more prominent anti-American teams since Cupcake Kaepernik’s BLM girlfriend co-opted the NFL into the War on America.

Just a thought, no way to confirm, but given the politicization of EVERYTHING in recent years, the guy could have been a long-time fan, veteran and/or LEO who had great disdain for what’s happened to the NFL and his once beloved team and made no secret about it, and Big Media editors could have taken it upon themselves to write whatever they chose to in his obit.

Headline didn’t match the quote either. Seems like we see that about 80+% of the time for anything President Trump says as well.

Big Media propagandizes every word they can in pursuit of their agenda against America and all for which we stand.

I like to look at what all their motivations might be.

FWIW, the full obituary is here:

http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/dispatch/obituary.aspx?page=lifestory&pid=187661915

The first sentence is likely all that was required to be published, with the rest furnished by the family.

The headline is not supported by the obit.

I’m old enough to remember Lou Groza. When I’m playing golf for money, an opponent will sometimes top the ball off the tee with his driver sending the ball bouncing into the ground and rolling a few yards up the fairway. I call that a Groza. After Lou’s famous ability to drop kick field goals.

I call that getting caught up in the long weeds.

Not enough hours in the day to Monday morning quarterback everything that happens in life.

Groza was a classic. I sometimes like watching golf, kind of a zen thing for me. Not any good at playing it, though.

No, it was just humorously cited as an “exacerbating” influence on his deteriorating health.

Except .. that it isn't "humorous!"

Not directed towards you, Louie, but it's that "Football Mentality" that I'm kinda railing about ....

Back in High School, I had a Geometry teacher who was also the coach of the HS Football team. He knew his Geometry equations real well and would present them to the class once, only once, and if you didn't get it the first time or if you had any questions he would just ignore you from then on. Some of the students in class were on the Varsity Football team which he coached, and they would (of course) get preferential treatment in class. Obviously this guy wasn't so much interested in 'teaching' Geometry as he was in maintaining his role as head coach of the HS Football team.

THAT's what I meant by "Football Mentality" ... here is a math teacher who really knows his math but isn't much interested in actually 'teaching' it ... his only interest is in coaching Football and being "The Chief"

My apologies if I've offended anyone here, but that's the harsh reality of us who are not enamored with Football, and us who have had to suffer indignities from those who are.

There is a radical treatment for Browns fans in advanced years. At 80 years old, I would prescribe a 23" Admiral, Zenith or Philco console, change the calendars to 1964, and obtain the highest quality videos of the Jim Brown and Frank Ryan led 1964 Cleveland Browns.

Play them starting with game one, all through the NFL Championship game, where the Colts with Johnny Unitas get steamrollered 27-0. Provide reporductions of period magazines and newspapers. If the poor soul mentions the team going winless, suggest it was a bad dream. Discourage him from watching entertainment programming other than the Browns. Those Brits with the girly haircuts and all their yeah-yeah-yeah is all that's on, anyway.

For a 90 year old, similar treament with the 1950 of 1954 Browns may be more efficacious, and you may get by with just a radio.
