I think a lot of teachers have a “but what I really want to do” Walter Mitty fanstasy-life. Sounds like the math teach imagined he were a pro-football coach. And you can apply mathematics to just about anything, including devising football strategy.
Not to worry, I don’t think anyone would be offended by what you’ve wrote. Different strokes, y’know.
