We all make misjudgements from time to time.

Not me, nor anyone I know, when it comes to your babies. You don't make a misjudgement of this magnitude, unforgiveable. This event makes me believe that mother did not want her child. That's the only thing that makes sense. Most parents fiercely protect their babies.

Long time ago, I was in a children's playground with my 4-year-old daughter. I always coached her on what to avoid and how to be safe. Another young girl perhaps 5 years old walked behind a row of metal horse swings (no longer done nowadays). Before I could get there, a swinging horse going backwards collided with her face and knocked her down. The girl lifted her head just as the metal horse was beginning the swing forwards and I grabbed it, preventing it from hitting her in the head once more which probably would have killed her. I told the kid riding that it wasn't her fault. I picked up the injured bloody girl and took her to a nearby bench, and tried to stop the flow of blood coming from her face. Called out for anyone who was responsible for the girl.

A few minutes later a woman came and said it was her daughter. I said she needs to go to the hospital immediately. Woman in broken english said it's okay. No, I think her nose and perhaps jaw was broken. Felt bad for the child, having an unconcerned mother not watching out for her. Hugged my daughter even closer as we left.
