With the new protests in Iran, this is no time for the West to stay quiet

Like New Yorkers, Iranians were out on the streets over New Year’s — except rather than braving ever-dropping temperatures, they faced tear gas, nasty riot cops and bullets.

Think we’ve seen this before? Wrong.

The ongoing days of rage (five and counting) are remarkably different than the failed protest in the aftermath of the rigged 2009 Iranian election.

They may signal the start of an evil regime’s downfall and reshape the entire Mideast.

But Iranians need our help.

The 2009 Green Revolution started after the rigged re-election of then-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. His regime’s rivals led street protests in Tehran. They spread beyond the capital and eventually petered out, quashed by thuggish regime enforcers.

This one’s leaderless. It started late last week in remote towns like Mashad and Rasht and only later spread to the capital, rooted in the poorer economic enclaves and spreading to the higher classes via Instagram, Telegram and other social media.

Demands are much more far-reaching. Rather than seeking to replace one clerical leader with another, these protesters want to scrap the whole system.

They chant, “No Syria, no Gaza, we’d die only for Iran.” And “Reformists, traditionalists, you’re all the same.” Even “Down with the dictator,” accompanied by the destruction of posters of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

This, in other words, is about regime change.

This could be the excuse needed to reinstitute the sanctions Obama lifted, if the Euroweenies go along with it rather than helping Iran get around them.

Had Obambka assisted the rebels we would not have to be doing this again, 9 years later. This is the time for the WEAK West to agitate and help topple the most dangerous regime on the planet...more than North Korea.

President Trump is not Obama. Trump will act decisively. Mattis will see to that. Mattis lost troops in Iraq to the Iranians. Tillerson should be on board. Be a counter to the Ruskies expanding their horizons. If we don’t act you know the saudis and israelis will.

Americans need to call their congress reps and repeat these sentiments. Also, immediately impose severe sanctions against the entire regime, jam IRI state tv, help the people communicate & organize by establishing VPN’s

The Israelis and Saudis have already formed some kind of military bond to counter Iran...it’s coming...

The Russians are in a precarious spot here. If they decide to back Iran and the revolution wins, Trump will go for Syria next. Which means, Israel will do something with Lebanon so they could destroy Hezbollah. With Hezbollah out of the picture, attention could then be turned on Hamas, which is why the Saudis are on board.

Basically, regime change in Iran is the first step in a true mid-east peace plan.

You’re right but the order seems to be wrong.

Iran must be crippled so that Hizbollah can be crippled. Israel cannot eliminate Hizbollah WITH Lebanon. Lebanon is HOSTAGE to Hizbollah and Iran as stated by the recent statements of Lebanon’s resigned Prime Minister Hariri. Lebanon will never help Israel get rid of Hizbollah which controls Southern Lebanan, they are too weak for that. Israel will have to deal with HAMAS separately. The Kingpin is Iran, the next pin is Hizbollah and the smaller pin is HAMAS and Islamic Jihad.

Apparently there were numerous planes leaving Iran last with no call signs. Looks like the leaders may be getting out or getting their families out.
