Re “no left turns”: in the ‘80s I worked for a large city and we had a major computer conversion project that lasted a year. The I.T. contractor we hired out of CA had people onsite most of the time. Their own insurance company forbade them to make left turns, even in the rental cars they used. It was weird riding with them, but those were their rules.

I think he feels that everything he did was ethical and above board, in his own mind. The Bible calls this “doing what is right in your own eyes”.
