An American tourist was shot and killed while apparently being robbed in a resort town on Mexico’s Pacific Coast that has become popular with surfers and Hollywood stars.

Douglas Bradley was killed Thursday in the hotel zone of Ixtapa. He was on Christmas vacation in neighboring Zihuatanejo and would have turned 50 the next day.

The city of Imperial Beach in San Diego County announced Bradley’s death on Friday. He was the city’s director of finance.

The indigenous peoples of Mexico are relegated to peon status because of their ruling elites, who are all the descendants of ruling and conquering Spaniards.

I'm not here to praise the bureaucratic ethics of Spain, but before the Spanish got to May-hico, the Aztecs had been in Mexico City about 75 years, having systematically conquered everyone on the way. They were an empire of accountants and torturers, but perhaps I repeat myself. Their ruling elite was 1000 percent Aztec, the previous elite having had their hearts extracted.

Just saying it's an old system not invented by the Spanish. I think the lesson here is that a ruling class that operates to any significant degree by due process is a rare and noble thing--the Hebrews, the Romans, and the Brits, maybe?

That is an absolute fact. During WWII, Mexico was “neutral”

Wrong. Get a job with CNN wrong. Untrue. False.

Mexico declared war on the Axis May 22, 1942 (they didn't like the Germans torpedoing their tankers).

Anyone who's studied World War II knows about the "Aztec Eagles"

My father spoke Spanish and we took a road trip down the east side of Mexico to Mexico City and then Acapulco and then up the west side. At some point north of Acapulco we had a car issue. My father spoke with a mechanic there and then quietly told us all to get in the car and be quiet. We found out later that there was a lot of anti-American sentiment going on and he didn’t think we were safe. This was in the 1960s.

Nevertheless, it was a great trip...fascinating actually to see the out of the way towns before they were corrupted by the drug cartels.

Wife and I liked Ixtapa and spent a week or ten days there every winter. Sun Country airlines flew direct from Mpls to Zihuatanejo. Zero degrees getting on the plane. 80 when we arrived a few hours later.
The only hassle was the “want to go fishing, senior ?”
