EEEEEK! Freezing rain ain’t good a-tall! I hope the highways are dealt with so travelers can get to their destinations safely. White-knuckle driving takes the fun out of a trip.
I’d love to go out to party but Hubby prefers to stay home. So I’ll be right here to ring in the New Year with the kittehs. And to be honest, that works out well. It’s going to be frigid that night and staying inside sounds like a good plan.

Although the Weavers’ version of “Goodnight, Irene” is of higher quality, the original version by Huddie Leadbetter, aka “Leadbelly,” who wrote the song, makes more sense. Whereas the Weavers sing, “I’ll see you in my dreams,” Leadbelly sings, “I’ll get you in my dreams.

NUMBER ONE HIT FOR 1954Much of the popular music of the early Fifties was pretty insipid. The real action was in R&B, which was slowly morphing into rock and roll. At first, successful R&B tunes were covered by white artists to make them safer for middle class sensibilities. The Chords recorded this tune and got the R&B hit, but the mainstream pop music hit came from a Canadian group. It was the beginning of a trend. The songwriters didnt mind; they were getting paid just the same.

Howdy, Publius.
Hope you’ve had a good week.
As many times as I’ve heard this piece over the years, I never knew the name of it.

LOL! It'll be close enough to the full moon, they'll be about as rowdy as that kitteh.
I gave them a bunch of tissue paper and gift wrap to play with Christmas Day and, surprisingly, they didn't tear all of it to shreds. I gathered the good pieces back up after a while and saved them for NYE. It should keep them occupied and give us a little break. :-)

NUMBER ONE HIT FOR 1955You were probably wondering when rock and roll would win a genuine victory as the best selling record of the year. This song made only a small impact at its release because it was the B-side of the record. But Richard Brooks used it in The Blackboard Jungle, and teenagers danced in the aisles when the song came on. It was the first time a rock and roll tune was used in a movie soundtrack, and it was the movie that propelled it to the top.
