NUMBER ONE HIT FOR 1955

You were probably wondering when rock and roll would win a genuine victory as the best selling record of the year. But Richard Brooks used it in “The Blackboard Jungle,” and teenagers danced in the aisles when the song came on. It was the first time a rock and roll tune was used in a movie soundtrack, and it was the movie that propelled it to the top.
