Contradict President and Constitution, No Appointment
Ammoland ^ | 26 December, 2017 | Dean Weingarten

Posted on 12/29/2017 6:38:00 AM PST by marktwain

Presidents correctly and rightfully expect their appointees to at a minimum, remain silent about policy differences, especially in areas where they have no expertise.

President Trump is not one to suffer fools at high levels. A recent potential appointee seemed to wish to score political points at the expense of the President.

Dean L. Winslow made a basic, rookie error. He lost.

From washingtonpost.com:

At my hearing, jet-lagged and in mourning over those killed, I was asked by Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) about the military discharge status of the shooter. He had been given a bad-conduct rather than dishonorable discharge and — despite episodes of domestic violence and a stint in a psychiatric hospital — was able to buy several weapons, including an AR-15-style gun. Although I stated that discharge status was not my area of responsibility, Shaheen pressed her point. I acknowledged that the Air Force dropped the ball and recommended an inspector general’s investigation focusing on systems failures that contributed to the tragedy.

Then, I blurted out what was in my heart: “I’d also like to . . . just say how insane it is that in the United States of America a civilian can go out and buy a semiautomatic weapon like an AR-15.” Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) interrupted, warning this was not in my “area of responsibility or expertise.” Soon after, my confirmation was put on hold.

The unasked for, unrelated response outside of Dr. Winslow's expertise, disqualified him for the appointment. If he could not control his response in the high intensity, one of a lifetime hot seats of a Senate Committee hearing,

Dr. Winslow was up for appointment to assistant secretary of defense for health affairs.

His antipathy toward the Second Amendment showed he had no honor, and did not uphold the Constitution.

The rub might be where one disagrees with the President BECAUSE of constitutionally-based reasons.

This guy thinks semi-automatics are just generally beyond the pale??

If he had made the classic error of calling the AR-15 an assault rifle or an automatic weapon, I’d call him an idiot who needs an education. But to say that no one should be allowed to buy a semi-automatic is just way over the top. Education won’t fix what’s wrong with him.

Why was he jet-lagged?

Any competent executive makes sure to be well rested before an important meeting.

If that is what is in his heart, then he has no place in the Trump administration anyway. I'm glad he revealed his contempt for the Constitution BEFORE he was able to worm his way in to the bureaucracy.

Agreed.

I admit I don’t have much of a problem if someone disagrees with their superior on virtually anything, as long as they keep it to themselves.

I say this, because if someone is competent and good at what they do, and act fully in compliance with and at the direction of their superior’s wishes and agenda, then they can do their job.

Heck, I disagree at a fundamental level with various people who are my superiors, but I am not here to agree or disagree with them, I am here to execute policies and procedures according to THEIR wishes. I don’t do that, I should be out of a job.

In this case, I recall being appalled at hearing that guy say that and thinking “Why on earth would he say that?”

Trump likely didn’t care if the candidate was pro or con 2nd Amendment, as long as the candidate could discharge the duties at Trump’s direction and do it well. But when he opened his mouth...yep. Trump likely realized that guy was not who he wanted.

‘Interesting’, no?

They decreed that sawed-off shotguns (aka ‘trench sweepers’) were illegal as they weren’t ‘weapons of war’ [they were utilized in that capacity] vs 2nd. Then they decree that ‘weapons of war’ [full autos/etc.], BEING ‘weapons of war’, can thus infringe our 2nd A. Rights (IIRC, the ‘State’ haven’t ‘compelling interests’ that trump said Right(s)].

So, doctor, and other pointy headed buffoons, which one is “correct” and why?

It is “Goldilocks” gun control.

The guns are either two big or two small. Too effective or not effective enough.

They are never “just right”.

No, you discuss your disagreement with your superior and come to an understanding. You don't do an end around by blind siding him by sharing that disagreement in public.

Well, I don’t think it is that clear cut.

In certain situations, yes, but in general, I don’t believe you need to come to an understanding of some kind as long as the goals and actions of your superiors don’t conflict with your own fundamental principles or beliefs.

If they do, you either have to come to an understanding as you said, or you have to leave.

One of my goals is to NEVER surprise or allow a superior to be surprised by something I had any hand in. This guy surprised his prospective boss, and Trump was right to nip it in the bud.

"...Just how insane it is that in the United States of America a civilian can go out and buy a semi-automatic weapon like an AR-15..." Pathetic...
Dog whistle writ large.

like an AR-15 semiautomatic weapon??
Really?

Might as well say "bugs Bunny Martian" style ray gun... or V3 Abrams tank...

Hydrogen, ignorance, stupidity and hysteria, the current most abundant things in the universe!

What an idiot, and he will protect us?
Our Constitution, which had served us so well for 220+ years would not exist today without the 2nd Amendment (the Bill of Rights)!

I won't speculate what, if anything might exist today in its place; I'll leave that to the snowflake megalomaniacs. Santayana.

With much travel in that new job, he would have had a lot of jet lag. Best for him to stay home.

What is insane in the U.S. is that some pathetic libtard loser appoint by the Clinton Crime Family after substantial donations to their campaign, and appointed as a federal district court judge, can impose on the POTUS their view of immigration policy or any other national actions by the POTUS.

I would regard it as the most important task before the country to eliminate the national authority of federal district court judges and limit anything they do by way of injunction to their own judicial district.
