Where does this stuff end? We are turning into the Soviet Union without even realizing it.

Not even basic biology is immune from being ‘repurposed for good intention’.

Next up; “The Force of Gravity” is an artificial social construct based on the accepted biases of wealthy people. One long overdue for a corrective update!!”

There are two sexes. How many genders there are depends on which language you are speaking.

Biologically speaking, there are only two genders. What science is this ‘professor’ using?

Actually, gender is a term that is only correctly associated with language/words. There are three genders: masculine, feminine and neutral.

Sexes, though? Yeah, there are only two: XX = female, and XY= Male.

And, by biological definition, chromosomes determine sex.

My biology professors would be shocked to learn they were wrong for all those years. They used to tell me that XX/XY determines sex. I should call them and tell them that personal preference determines sex and XX/XY is meaningless . . . because "science".

Homofascists still have not found ‘teh ghey gene’.

Next they’ll need to find the tranny gene, neuter gene, poly gene, butch grne, femme gene, sissy gene, dom gene, sub gene, top gene, bottom gene, drag king/queen genes, chicken hawk gene, cougar gene, chubbt chaser gene, etc

Madness with inmates proclaiming they ‘science’!

There are chromosomal aberrations, to be sure. XXY, XYY, XXX (yes, for real), and others. Together they comprise between 0.5 and 1 percent of live births. Most fetuses with chromosomal abnormalities don’t survive gestation.

” 1) Sex and gender aren’t the same thing. 2) Chromosomes don’t determine sex.”

This woman’s brain is totally messed up, she should be banned from teaching even how to clean toilets, let alone biology and from being nearer than 100 yards of any school.

Disclaimer: When I graduated we used cuneiform sticks and clay tablets for our term papers.

Two things determine gender and sex. Chromosomes are the objective standard.

Degree of mental illness is the 21st Century substitute standard.

Yet another reason to never listen to anyone from the third rate community college known as San Jose State.

Lots of their hapless, helpless, Engrish-as-a-Third-Language graduates doin’ time in the bowels of the Silicon Slum, doing the grunt work that people with an actual education don’t have any interest in doing.

About Rachael L. French

I am an associate professor at San José State University with a research program focusing on an invertebrate genetic model of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

In addition, since 2009 I have been working as a freelance editor for Aplia, Inc., a textbook publishing company in Belmont, California. I serve as a reviewer of problem sets for the Biology project, using my expertise as a geneticist, behavioral scientist, neuroscientist, and my broad-based knowledge of biology to determine the quality and scientific accuracy of the problems produced and to suggest improvements.

Its not bigoted to sternly oppose idiots. In fact it is noble if you are able to purge them from any position of influence.

She studies the sexual habit of fruit flies!!! Duh... She must be having a brain fart as genes contain DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). DNA is the chemical basis of heredity. Think of it this way: DNA is in genes, genes are on chromosomes.

Here is part of the abstract of one of her pub’s

Abstract

Over the past 35 years, developmental geneticists have made impressive progress toward an understanding of how genes specify morphology and function, particularly as they relate to the specification of each physical component of an organism. In the last 20 years, male courtship behavior in Drosophila melanogaster has emerged as a robust model system for the study of genetic specification of behavior. Courtship behavior is both complex and innate, and a single gene, fruitless (fru), is both necessary and sufficient for all aspects of the courtship ritual.

Typically, loss of male-specific Fruitless protein function results in male flies that perform the courtship ritual incorrectly, slowly, or not at all. Here we describe a novel requirement for fru: we have identified a group of cells in which male Fru proteins are required to reduce the speed of courtship initiation. In addition, we have identified a gene, which is required in these cells for normal courtship and mating behavior.
