She studies the sexual habit of fruit flies!!! Duh... She must be having a brain fart as genes contain DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). DNA is the chemical basis of heredity. Think of it this way: DNA is in genes, genes are on chromosomes.

Over the past 35 years, developmental geneticists have made impressive progress toward an understanding of how genes specify morphology and function, particularly as they relate to the specification of each physical component of an organism. In the last 20 years, male courtship behavior in Drosophila melanogaster has emerged as a robust model system for the study of genetic specification of behavior. Courtship behavior is both complex and innate, and a single gene, fruitless (fru), is both necessary and sufficient for all aspects of the courtship ritual.
Typically, loss of male-specific Fruitless protein function results in male flies that perform the courtship ritual incorrectly, slowly, or not at all. Here we describe a novel requirement for fru: we have identified a group of cells in which male Fru proteins are required to reduce the speed of courtship initiation. In addition, we have identified a gene, which is required in these cells for normal courtship and mating behavior.

Yes, at the genetic level, there is a whole lot of complex interactions and all sorts of improbable but possible edge cases that don’t fit the “male” and “female” buckets that nearly everyone else in the world who has ever been born fits into just fine.
But nearly everyone who has ever been born fits into one of these two buckets and the determinative factor is the very well understood XX or XY. If the biology professor feels differently so strongly, she shouldn’t argue with a headstrong Texas legislator who probably lacks the education to succinctly rebut her position, she should argue with every obstetrician and nurse midwife who has ever read a genetic test result and told an expectant parent their baby is going to be either a boy or a girl.

Seems like everyday these “professors” are coming out with the stupidest things. Must not take much academics to be a “professor” these days. Wonder if anyone even checks their credentials to make sure they actually went to school, before hiring them. Idiot.

She’s a supposed “biologist” for whom pop-psychology and a social-political has priority over biological science.
Like all the “gender” political activists, she, for political reasons attempts to promote a tiny fraction of exceptions as the norm and to be treated as the norm, so much that anyone with a mental obsession can claim the status that in reality only a tiny fraction of biologically ABNORMAL situations can claim [like hermaphrodites - 1) true hermaphrodite – an infant born with both ovaries and testicles and has both male and female sex organs. 2) female pseudohermaphrodite – a genetic female with male external sex organs; 3) male pseudohermaphrodite – a genetic male with external sex organs that fail to develop properly, resulting in female or male/female physical characteristics].
The descriptive word for this is called scientism . It's what snake oil salesmen used to push their "cure-all" elixirs at a premium price.
