President Trump has transformed the worlds view of the United States from an anchor of the international order into something more inward-looking and unpredictable.
WASHINGTON President Trump was already revved up when he emerged from his limousine to visit NATOs new headquarters in Brussels last May. He had just met Frances recently elected president, Emmanuel Macron, whom he greeted with a white-knuckle handshake and a complaint that Europeans do not pay their fair share of the alliances costs.
On the long walk through the NATO buildings cathedral-like atrium, the presidents anger grew. He looked at the polished floors and shimmering glass walls with a property developers eye. (Its all glass, he said later. One bomb could take it out.) By the time he reached an outdoor plaza where he was to speak to the other NATO leaders, Mr. Trump was fuming, according to two aides who were with him that day.
He was there to dedicate the building, but instead he took a shot at it.
I never asked once what the new NATO headquarters cost, Mr. Trump told the leaders, his voice thick with sarcasm. I refuse to do that. But it is beautiful. His visceral reaction to the $1.2 billion building, more than anything else, colored his first encounter with the alliance, aides said.
Nearly a year into his presidency, Mr. Trump remains an erratic, idiosyncratic leader on the global stage, an insurgent who attacks allies the United States has nurtured since World War II and who can seem more at home with Americas adversaries. His Twitter posts, delivered without warning or consultation, often make a mockery of his administrations policies and subvert the messages his emissaries are trying to deliver abroad.

“Anchor of the international order.”
“THE” international order?
Actually DURING WWII Roosevelt's policy towards the Soviets was "I will give Stalin everything he wants and then some"
B/S. He did nothing of the sort. We are still fully engaged internationally. The difference is that we are now pursuing our own national interests much more, instead of allowing our boys to be used as globalist cannon fodder. And our national wealth is no longer a slush fund to be raided the way Jimmy Hoffa's mafia buddies raided the Central States pension fund.
I used to try to understand as many sides as I could. I would actually watch Morning Joke, or read articles from the NYT or WP. But since those outlets have declared their intentions: bash Trump, at all times, without regard to facts.
I no longer have any interest in what they have to say. I wonder how many are like me?
Disclaimer: I’m not a rock ribbed conservative. I’m reasonably far right of center, but not pegging the meter to the right.
When corporations build a monument to themselves, a new massive corporate headquarters, it’s time to sell the stock. $1.2 Billion for a headquarters? NATO is finished.
“...the international order...”
So they’re ADMITTING it openly now... Thanks, NYT, for confirming it!
More like 70 years of ineffective wrong foreign policy.
Buying off enemies only works for awhile.
“””””Mr. Trump remains an erratic, idiosyncratic leader on the global stage, an insurgent who attacks allies the United States has nurtured since World War II “”””””
By “nurtured” they really mean “ sucked up to, grovelled at the feet of, kissed ass”
Go President Trump.
I’m pretty much like you. I gave up watching the mainstream news outlets a few years ago, until sometime in the middle of the 0bama regime. Before then, the democrat/communist media/entertainment/propaganda complex would usually relate the truth, just not the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Oh, and what truth was related came with a heavy dose of spin.
However, sometime during the 0bama campaign of 2008, that changed. They just started lying...and the lies spiraled larger and larger. I believe it was because they had come close to seizing the Presidency in 2000 using the usual tactics, and failed then and again in 2004. In 2008, they went all in to fix the game. It worked. Since then, they have not bothered to be limited to the truth.
So that’s where they lost me. I don’t like being lied to.
I too avoid the MSM scrupulously, to the point of switching to Fox when the evening news starts.
lol if you say nyt, as if it’s word, it comes out sounding like the Russian word for NO, nay eye eat. lol
Sometimes a bull in the china shop is the only way to make headway, especially if the china is actually cheap knock offs instead of something of real value.
To the write: President Trump is NOT “erratic”. He’s a smart man; just not evil like your beloved Obama.
Well, fiction is what they do.
President Trump has transformed the worlds view of the United States from an anchor of the international order into something more inward-looking and unpredictable.
And the international order has been such a good thing for Americans.
Aka New World Order
Aka Bush Clinton Bush Obama Ripoff
Insurgent (noun) A rebel or revolutionary.
Do you think they meant it in a good way? (GUFFAW!) After all, they routinely back rebels and revolutionaries.
Bttt.
