Russian officials treating explosion as 'mass homicide attempt,' say explosive was 'filled with projectiles.' At least 10 injured.
At least 10 people have been injured to varying degrees of severity as a result of an explosion which took place in a busy St. Petersburg supermarket this evening.
Officials have opened an investigation into the incident. According to RT, they are treating the explosion as a “mass homicide attempt.”
An official statement said that, "according to the preliminary assessment by explosives experts, an improvised explosive device, equivalent to 200 grams of TNT, exploded in St. Petersburg.”
"The device was filled with projectiles.”
According to Reuters, Alexander Klaus, the head of St. Petersburg's investigative committee, said that "all possible versions of what has happened are being worked on."
"As of now, it has been established that 10 people were taken to the city's hospitals with injuries. At the moment, the lives of those injured are not under threat."
Earlier this month, Russian President Vladimir Putin telephoned US President Donald Trump to thank him for providing US intelligence which the Kremlin said helped prevent a bomb attack on a cathedral in St. Petersburg, as well attacks on other sites.

As much as the western world is hoping to change their behavior by keeping their doors open to (mm)uslim migrants or asylum seekers, it never will work as their behavior has been ingrained and inbred over hundreds of years, if not a thousand. And anyone foolish enough to think it can be done over a generation or two, will have to bear the ill fated consequences.

Their intent is to kill others, hence it is a homicide bombing.
This bomb had the equivalent of only a half pound of TNT (about one stick of dynamite). Not good, but a huge step down from some of the islamic terrorist attacks of past years.
That brings me to the dog that did not bark this year - no big Christmas atrocity by muslims!
No church was attacked during services, no mass killing.
I think it reflects a shift that is underway. ISIS is effectively destroyed. No one really cared when an official policy of “Annihilation” was adopted for ISIS. The Saudi Prince rounded up their most radical preachers and tossed them in jail without trial.
Radical islam is flat on its back this year, and getting torn to pieces.
