Congress Demands DOJ Turn Over All Docs Related to Obama Scheme to Nix Hezbollah Terror

FULL TITLE: Congress Demands DOJ Turn Over All Docs Related to Obama Scheme to Nix Hezbollah Terror Investigation

Congress instructed the Department of Justice on Thursday to turn over all documents and communications that may be related to newly disclosed efforts by the Obama administration to handicap an investigation into the terror group Hezbollah and its Iranian benefactors, according to a letter sent to Attorney General Jeff Sessions obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

The letter represents the first salvo in a new investigation by congressional leaders into allegations senior Obama administration officials thwarted a decade-long Drug Enforcement Agency investigation into Hezbollah's illicit operations.

The Obama administration, in what congressional insiders described to the Free Beacon as a "potentially criminal" enterprise, interfered with the DEA's investigation into Hezbollah drug activities in order to avoid angering the terror group's chief patron Iran and preserve the landmark nuclear deal.

"I've long believed that the Obama administration could not have done any more to bend over backwards to appease the Iranian regime, yet news that the Obama administration killed the investigation into a billion dollar drug ring that lined the terrorist group Hezbollah's pockets in order to save its coveted Iran deal may very well take the cake," Rep. Ron DeSantis (R., Fla.) said.

If “draining the swamp” was really the goal, then every high level Obama appointee would have been fired by now.....

That looks like a nice, quiet location to park a few vans in front of... and test out the latest new surveillance techniques and equipment.

Is Valerie Jarret still living with the Obamas in the Obama Shadow White House?

Sessions will be sure to dig in his heels on this.

Its weird. Its like he chooses to defend his DOJ like a pit bull, against Congress and the citizens, even though its a rogue agency.

Just because he is no longer President does not mean you can no longer impeach him.

If Impeached and convicted, I think you could take away his pension, and prevent him from running from any other officer. While it would be satisfying to remove his Secret Service Detail, he was a president and you do not want him to wander around as a target. Remove his passport and limit his travel.

All very hypothetical, but I do not realistically see him in an orange jumpsuit sweating in a ditch with a weedwacker.

The GOP should put together an impeachment team for Obama.

This time it’s for real, and I’m pumped! I’m definitely holding my breath until all the documents are turned over!

Or until I start breathing again, whichever comes first...

Congress will play stompy feet and it’ll be forgotten.

Or as they say in Brazil: it all ends in pizza ("Vai acabar em pizza").

Charge him and put on a show trail as a private citizen. He no longer holds ANY public office - he is fair game to anyone with standing and DEEP POCKETS.

Apparently not, although Congressional committee hearings did turn up evidence of deception on the part of ATF and the DOJ, and then-Attorney General Eric Holder was held in contempt of congress, the first sitting member of a president's cabinet to achieve that distinction.

For that is all it was. No other penalty was ever meted out to Holder, who remained in office for nearly another three hears after the finding, the vote for which having been along party lines.

From all appearances, it would seem that Holder took his contempt citation as a badge of honor. Among his cronies and supporters, that's all it was.

From a Fox News story on the subject, published in June of this year (2017):

Grassley's and Dodson's testimony reinforced findings of the report, which states that the Justice Department knew before Terry’s death that the ATF was “walking” firearms to Mexico and knew the day after the agent’s death that Fast and Furious guns were involved in the shootout -- despite denying these facts to the media. It goes on to state that the Justice Department’s internal investigation focused more on spinning the story to avoid negative media coverage than looking into lapses by either the DOJ or ATF.

Several emails revealed in the report appear to indicate that some Justice Department staffers were working to keep information from political appointees at the department.

“I don't want to jinx it but it really is astounding that the plan worked -- so far,” former Deputy Attorney General James Cole wrote in an email to Holder, according to the report.

The report also says that Holder’s Justice Department stonewalled inquiries from Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and deceptively told him that the “ATF makes every effort to interdict” firearms purchased by straw buyers. The controversial act of straw purchases – where a person who is prohibited from buying firearms uses another person to buy a gun on his or her behalf – has been a popular method that Mexico’s drug cartels use to obtain guns.

“There are important reasons for not giving Grassley everything he is asking for: it would embolden him in future fights and would 'use up' a lot of the material that we will eventually need to release to (California Rep. Darrell) Issa . . . as the oversight struggle continues,” the Office of Legislative Affairs Assistant Attorney General Ron Welch said in an email to DOJ colleagues.
