The U.S. Military’s UFO Program Is Actually Pretty Cool (New info on Nimitz UFO)

The story that followed has circulated in the military aviation world and fighter community for several years, including this write-up by former Navy F-14A Tomcat pilot Paco Chierici at Fighter Sweep. With orders to intercept the object, Fravor in his jet — callsign FASTEAGLE 01 — headed toward with aid from an E-2 Hawkeye early warning and control plane.

The Hawkeye’s sensors, however, couldn’t detect the object and vector him toward it, so Princeton directed FASTEAGLE 01 and Fravor’s wingman, FASETEAGLE 02 to the location, and even asked Fravor whether he was carrying weapons — he wasn’t. He just had two training missiles. Below the jets, Fravor saw whitewater sloshing in the blue ocean.

All four aircrew were eyes out from this point forward. The first unusual indication Dave picked up was the area of whitewater on the surface that Cheeks was looking at over his shoulder as he flew away. He remembers thinking it was about the size of a 737 and maybe the contact they had been vectored on had been an airliner that had just crashed. He maneuvered his F-18 lower to get a better look. As he was descending through about 20K he was startled by the sight of a white object that was moving about just over the frothing water. It was all white, featureless, oblong and making minor lateral movements while staying at a consistent low altitude over the disk of turbulent water.

*snip*

It’s also worth reading the comments section at Fighter Sweep:

I was on board the USS Princeton (2001-2005) when this all went down. We actually went to GQ (General Quarters) for about 4 hours as all...this was going down.

I just finished watching “Final Countdown”.

IIRC, the carrier featured was the Nimitz and one of the call signs was FastEagle1.

Unmanned blimps don’t have a radar signature?

Everything has a radar signature. And indeed, the more powerful radar on the ship picked up the object. But use the right plastics and the right coatings, and the signature will be much smaller than a similar sized plane

The history of UFO’s in the modern area to 1951. Goggle ufo Washington DC US Capitol abc news. Several days of video with 20’ish ufo’s hovering over the Capitol building while ABC was filming a news story. One time 3 F-15’s chased several down thru southern maryland.

F-15’s didn’t come on the inventory until the mid 1970’s.

If a living thing was inside it, there must have been some kind of protection from the G-force required to attain it's speed.

If You haven't read this check it out. I'm on the second reading. My first I spent 2 different days in the Book Store reading in the store.

There is the explanation of Your question.

Correct on the Nimitz.

Great movie, too bad it couldn’t have really happened. Just think- That one Carrier could have kicked the Japs asses and then cruised to the Atlantic and killed hitler and Co.

The only problem would have been spare Stores of Ammo.

But would that cause the USS Princeton to go on General Quarters?

It's always funny to watch some Freepers scramble for fake science and fake news to wish away things they don't understand.

So instead of an unexplainable disturbance in the water seen by on-scene trained military personnel, it's now simply a school of fish or a submarine below the surface?

Bagdad Bob couldn't have done better himself with those two fake science and fake news explanations. "The Americans are NOT in Baghdad. I'm not afraid, and you shouldn't be, either."

But guys: what if you're wrong and the sailors and officers are correct?

On the other hand, it is possible to accept the perspective and report of a well trained observer at face value.

The speeds and maneuvers of the exotic craft were both atypical for a missile, IIRC.

Blimps do not approach speed and maneuverability of even conventional or fighter aircraft. Exotic UFO craft are wayyyyy beyond the flight characteristics of a blimp.

There was another episode in more modern times where UFOs were seen over DC. And it’s true that they were chased over Southern Maryland, but it was during this modern episode. My memory isn’t so great but I want to say it was exactly 50 years after the 1952 incident.

“Skybus sounds like a solid product.”

I completely agree with you that it was a drone. But the description of a long oblong shape is confusing when it could accelerate at such speeds. The only product of that shape I could remember was Skybus and we have had 11 years to deal with acceleration.

I admit it is pretty extravagant, but the shape and the speed don’t coincide with known technology unless they actually did break into a vehicle in the Rosewell incident back in the forties and they have found out what makes it tick at Groom Lake. Buck Rodgers.

” Exotic UFO craft are wayyyyy beyond the flight characteristics of a blimp”

Not trying to embarrass you, but have you ever seen an exotic UFO except on TV? I’ve seen craft that didn’t do what they should, but I’m not sure what the origin was. And with the description of what they gave, for our capacity, they described the shape of a blimp. How they got it to go that fast, is above my pay grade. And this one Bright Sky can’t write it off as a weather balloon or swamp gas. I have no suggestions other than an updated Skybus. It looks like a blimp.
