2020 might be a problem.
Thanks for the welcome words of reassurance and insight.
Really appreciate your post.
Moreover, just saw President Trump overwhelmed by supporters as he arrived in Florida to spend the Holidays at Mar-a-Lago.
It was beautiful and heartwarming.
Merry Christmas and a Joyous 2018 to you and all members of our Free Republic family!!!
We should cut them loose now.
Were they going to vote for him before?
I guess the PR gov’nor was so busy yelling about himself, he missed the news on the largest aid bill passed, in the history of the country.
Katrina hurricane refugees from Louisiana who relocated to the DFW area tipped our politics just enough to get rid of most of our Republican county judges.
Ahh, a couple of well placed cockfights and banana fry offs should take care of things.
Sorry to hear of your plight.
Hopefully, everything will be better going forward under President Trump’s leadership, especially on the economy.
Please see my Post #22 for another perspective.
Donald Trump would have won the 2016 election even if he had lost Florida.
But fear not....Republican registration in Florida is up significantly since the 2016 election.
Puerto Rico Ping! Please Freepmail me if you want on or off the list.
I fear our casual attitude will come back to bite us. To be forewarned is to be forarmed...it would be naive to underestimate the determination and money behind all the factions trying to sink our nation.
It is an “economy” built on welfare and other wealth transfers from the US; anything that reduces taxes on working Americans in their minds must be detrimental to Puerto Rica.
I read a ton of Puerto Ricans are living there after the hurricane!!
There already were a lot of Puerto Ricans living in that area of Florida, most of whom could care less who the governor of PR is. They vote with their pocketbook unemployment in FL is down below the so called full employment level.
Interesting.
Thanks for posting.
New Progressive Party,=Socialist=Communist Party.
Puerto Rico
Pop 7/1/2016: 3,406,520 Pop 7/1/2017: 3,337,177 Loss: -69,343
Natural Increase (Births/Deaths): -1,065 Births: 28,267 Deaths: 29,332
Migration: -68,278 (not defined whether all of this is to U.S. mainland or other countries)
This data is from before the hurricane so it had no effect on it.
In essence Puerto Ricos pop had been shrinking before the hurricane. We wont know until this time next year the total pop loss for PR during the year of the hurricane.
Only Maine had more deaths than births last year with a natural decrease of 1,235 with births: 12,504 and deaths: 13,739 and West Virginia with a natural decrease of 3,129 with births: 19,098 and deaths: 22,227.
I just did a dive into the births/death per population*. New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and Connecticut along with Puerto Rico all had birth per pop below 1% followed by Massachusetts and Rhode Island with just over 1%. West Virginia and Florida come next. WV has some of the same issues facing Maine, being one of the oldest average age populations and Florida is well known as a place for older populations. I was surprised to see the other New England states bunched at the top.
NH 0.93%, VT 0.93%, ME 0.94%, CT 0.98%, RI 1.03%, MA 1.04%, WV 1.05%, FL 1.07%
For reference, TX 1.43%, ND 1.46%, AK 1.51%, UT 1.66% are the most baby birthing states.
Puerto Rico is at the very bottom of the pack with 0.85% birth per pop. Any statistician will say that this is definitely an outlier.
* (Not the birth rate which is the number of birth per woman of child bearing age).
The deaths per population does not follow a similar pattern. WV does lead with 1.22% followed by Mississippi 1.07%, Alabama 1.03% and then Maine 1.03%.
Thanks very much for the encouraging words.
Merry Christmas and Happy 2018 to you.
You have a Merry Christmas, too.....and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!
People who don’t pay US Federal Income Taxes should NOT be permitted to vote in Federal elections!
