When I was managing a restaurant once the waitress came to tell me she thought this homeless looking guy was going to take off out the emergency door. So I said "Let's tell him it's on us today, I'll make up some reason. Go get him some pie for desert."

Apparently he was watching because when I went over there he took off out the emergency door and was far away before I could get there! Then the waitress came up with the pie and we watched him make his escape in the distance.

After I paid, I handed my credit card to the cashier and told her to use it for their meals and walked away. I knew she would not take undue advantage of my card.
