Several threads on Freep have stats on turnout per district, which would be impossible to attain...

“the stock market is turning thumbs down on the economy. The stock market does not approve of this upcoming tax cut.”

Two points.<> 1. - on Stocks - Buy the roomer sell the News - When The Donald signs the Tax cut there may very well be a drop in the Market

2. - The market is WAY overbought - it will have a drop - I thought it would happen in 2017, now it looks like sometime in 2018, most likely summer 2018

Nonsense. Turnout totals are what matter, and they were similar to 2016, minus hundreds of thousands of Republican voters. That was not a cheat, a fraud or a miss-identification. I’m not at all happy about it, but I’m not going to search for a rationale beyond what is the truth.

Those hundreds of thousands of Republicans NOT voting caused Jones to win.

It’s simple logic.

The democrats have all kinds of statistics, rumors and “proof” that Trump colluded with the Russians, and the Russians hacked Hillary, Podesta, the DNC, etc., etc. Do you believe any of it?

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and an election with a poor turnout is also just a poor turnout.

It’s simple logic.

Actually, it's simple MATH. Logic is used to come up with the observation. Moore lost.

"I guarantee Jones will be gone in two years."

I guarantee Jones will be gone in two years, unless McConnell does something really stupid again.

Moore's best showing in a general election was 54.6% of the vote in 2000 -- before he became well known. His last vote share in a general election was 51.8% in 2012. Trump -- a New Yorker, annoying accent and all -- won 62.1% in Alabama in November 2016. So Moore's, ummmmm, I'll be kind, uniqueness as a candidate seems to have cost at least 10.3%, while dating minors cost another 3.4%.

So I'd think that any Republican strategist with two connected brain cells should be able to win this in a heartbeat with a half decent Republican candidate. But the Republicans aren't known as the "Stupid Party" for nothing.

However, an improved economy, virtual absolution from the Russian collusion, and exposure of deep state collusion on the same Russian collusion story should bode well for us. The bully pulpit is key and I'm happy to hear he's cranking that up.

Who is going to give Trump "virtual absolution from the Russian collusion"? The Congressional investigations might come to that conclusion, but given the joint nature of these investigations, there will be language in their reports that will allow the Dems to charge that although collusion could not be proven without a doubt, there was circumstantial evidence (smoke) that could indicate collusion. Just the fact that an investigation was necessary raises doubts.

And the Mueller investigation can be used by the Dems regardless. Four of Trump's campaign team have been indicted already. More to come?

If Trump makes the midterms a referendum on him, it may increase Rep turnout, but it will also fire up the Dems. You can bet that sexual misconduct by Trump will be one of the talking points.

A booming economy will help Reps, but will it be enough to slow down the Dem momentum? I firmly believe that the Reps must use the DNC involvement in the Steele dossier and the attempted coup by Deep State in the 2018 midterms. The Obama administration was spying on both the Trump campaign and transition teams. The unmasking goes up to the highest levels of the Obama administration. Obama's monitoring of the Trump transition team and its meetings with foreign countries allowed Obama to place landmines to thwart Trump's foreign policy objectives.

One thing that does not get enough coverage is Obama ordering on December 9 that the Intel community conduct a review of Russian meddling in our elections and to get a report on his desk before he left office. The review was conducted by Comey (FBI), Brennan (CIA), Clapper (DNI), and Rogers (NSA). The report produced on January 6th, contains many of the elements in the Steele dossier, especially the conclusion that Putin was trying to help Trump. Was Strzok involved in preparing this report? It is also interesting to note that one of the findings demonstrated some disagreement among the agencies:

We also assess Putin and the Russian Government aspired to help President-elect Trump’s election chances when possible by discrediting Secretary Clinton and publicly contrasting her unfavorably to him. All three agencies agree with this judgment. CIA and FBI have high confidence in this judgment; NSA has moderate confidence.

Assessing Russian Activities and Intentions in Recent US Elections

The fact that Adm Rogers met with Trump to the dismay of Obama, may be important because Rogers did not want to be part of this conspiracy against Trump.

It is also worth noting that the Obama placed additional sanctions on Russia just days before leaving office making it more difficult for Trump to have a "reset" with Russia. It also just happened to be part of Flynn's meeting with the Russian Ambassador that the Obama administration had wiretapped.

Depending on what is in the DOJ OIG report, I would recommend that Trump go on national television in prime time to go over the findings and discuss the seriousness of what happened to our democracy and what needs to be done to go forward to restore confidence in the FBI and the DOJ. It would make riveting TV with Sessions, Wray, and Michael Horowitz, the DOJ OIG. It could be his "Drain the Swamp" speech.

See my post #87. 40% plus approval is not the stuff of winning elections.

...so the pearl clutchers got all wound up over phony sexual harrassment charges, and stayed home.

As a result, you now have a Senator that supports dissection of unborn children. Strange set of priorities there, girls.

Re Kasick - He has never tried to work with R dominated Ohio legislature, so they may have finally handed him a doozie. They passed a bill banning abortion of a fetus because it shows signs of Down Syndrome. If he vetoes it or signs it, he is doomed either way. Merry Christmas John boy. (His political career is done in any event)

Yes, I fully understand that a 40% approval is typically a disaster for the candidate but with Trump he may be trending up slightly. He only polled in the low 40’s when he beat Hillary with what, 330 EV’s?
The suggestion to give a major primetime speech explaining the nifty work of the justice department makes a ton of sense. It’s virtually impossible to “tweet” the ramifications of the deep state in a format people would understand.

I'm with you. The Rogers meeting with Trump you mentioned was followed within a week by moving transition HQ out of Trump Tower to Trump National in NJ. Rogers knew what was happening, imho, and tipped off DjT, who also knows. That explains his confidence.

I'd dream for a Deep State speech, but absent that, he'll bully pulpit all the information over the campaign.

A stamp of sedition planted squarely on the deep state (dems, intelligence, FBI) will effectively provide the absolution from Russian collusion...seems to me.

Sessions apparent slowness in developing/exposing may be intended to sync nicely with the campaigns which ramp up in 2 weeks time. We hope Sessions delays are merely delays in announcing some of his 1183 sealed indictments, rather than pulling punches in investigating them...so as to maintain comity.

I’m not trying to put down what you’re saying. I’m only saying that if we could have gotten the turnout we expected, we would have won. Last week I thought we had this. I really, truly did. I was expecting us to turnout in big numbers, and shocked when we didn’t.
