A Kentucky state representative committed suicide Wednesday, two days after allegations he sexually assaulted a teenage girl were made public.
According to Sheriff Donnie Tinnell of Bullitt County, Republican Rep. Dan Johnson killed himself on a bridge in Mount Washington, Kentucky. The coroner said he died of a single gunshot wound and determined it was a probable suicide.
Police were alerted after Johnson posted a suicide note on Facebook. Officers pinged his cell phone and found his body next to his car.
The lawmakers death comes after the Kentucky Center for Investigative reporting published an expose Monday detailing an allegation that Johnson had sexually assaulted a 17-year-old parishioner from the church where he was bishop. The alleged incident occurred after a New Years Eve party in 2012.
The parishioner, now 21, said that in the early hours of Jan. 1, 2013, after a New Years Eve party at the church, she and Mr. Johnsons daughter slept over at an apartment below the fellowship hall. After falling asleep on a sofa, she said, she woke up to find Mr. Johnson who was drunk after going to a bar earlier in the night kneeling over her. He proceeded to kiss her, grope her breasts under her shirt, put his hand down her pants and penetrate her with his finger, she said.
The woman reported the assault to the Louisville Metro Police Department within months of the episode, but no charges were filed. However, her account was corroborated by family members, by her therapists notes from the first half of 2013 and by Facebook messages she exchanged with Mr. Johnson, the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting wrote. (New York Times)
Johnson denied the allegations earlier this week, saying at a press conference: "This allegation concerning this lady, this young girl, absolutely has no merit, these are unfounded accusations, totally.
He went on to argue the allegation against him was, in part, politically motivatedthat the woman was a supporter of Hillary Clinton who opposed his conservative beliefs.
"This is an assault on all real people, there's no perfect people and you get into office and all of sudden political hacks come against you and start accusing you after you're in office," Johnson said.
Mac Brown, chairman of the Republican Party of Kentucky, called on him to resign after the investigative report, which he called extensively sourced.
"[O]nce again find ourselves in a position where we must call for him to resign, this time, from the Kentucky General Assembly, Brown said in a statement.
T or F these allegations are out of control across the board.
Just like “rasist”
What will result is it will become so every day the real accusers will loose merit and not get the attention deserved
It was just a matter of time.
There's five more acres in the lower forty I've got to plow And mama said it was a shame about Billy Joe, anyhow
Seems like nothin' ever comes to no good up on Choctaw Ridge
And now Billy Joe MacAllister's jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge
Fair warning, if I were falsely accused, I wouldn't be killing myself, I'd be killing the libeler, and any lawyers involved. Thanks Kaslin.
Looks like Larry Flynt.
Ode to Billy Joe. Great song.
Here are the investigative group’s other targets, not sure if they target any liberals:
Not sure if they receive Open Society / Soros funding or not.
If its not true accuser has no sole forget conscience
he must have ha d alot of issues to kill himself over an allegation.
From the article: "The woman reported the assault to the Louisville Metro Police Department within months of the episode, but no charges were filed. However, her account was corroborated by family members, by her therapists notes from the first half of 2013 and by Facebook messages she exchanged with Mr. Johnson."
I watched part of his news conference denying the allegations.
Something seemed “off”.
At least there is a little substance to this woman’s story so far as corroboration and evidenc, and hard copy of text messages sealed it.
This is far and away more than most of these gals had, who are all suddenly remembering a pass was made at them, 30 years ago. Even some of those small whacks barely hold together.
We can’t be shown a pic of the 17 year old girl, but even assuming the allegation is not true, he may have felt that his life was ruined.
The guy was definitely unstable and morally bankrupt. But the story was a one sided hit piece, basically investigated his entire life - credit report, finances, employment, etc - then picked it apart and spun it in the worst possible lightn and hung it around his neck like a scarlet letter.
Appears they went after him because he beat the Democrat in the race. And they thought they had knocked him out after unearthing some Facebook posts.
They framed the Dem as Mother Theresa whose interestst include gardening, reading, civic activities, crafts and flower arranging.
Then they described how he squeaked a win by keeping his Facebook page private. Then they admitted the hit:
So, Johnson had reason to smile that night. He was on his way to the statehouse. He had weathered the Facebook controversy, in part because the most controversial posts were removed and his profile made private.
But other aspects of his past cannot be so readily erased.
that’s what my husband said, but still? KILL yourself over something you claim is NOT true? Had to have had some bad demons to do this.
Coward could not face the truth in what he really did so he offed himself
