White House contradicts Tillerson on North Korea, adding to confusion
BBC ^ | December 13, 2017 | BBC

Mr Tillerson said on Tuesday that he was ready to open dialogue with Pyongyang, without preconditions.

But within a day, the White House and State Department had reiterated the administration's hard line, stressing that North Korea must first commit to abandoning its nuclear weapons.

The mixed messages mark the third time in recent months that Mr Tillerson has been publicly at odds with the White House.

BBC is anti-Trump. All Tillerson said is that he’d be glad to sit down and talk with fat boy, not that he’d agree to anything. I don’t know if the White House is correcting him, or just giving an explanation.

I’ve had it with these disloyal department and agency heads. Tillerson needs to STFU about what he wants, and go after what the President wants. It just pisses me off to no end to see the level of disloyalty being displayed from Trump’s direct reports. It terms of appointments to head agencies, I doubt if Trump is batting 50%!

Bingo.

BBC is just distorting to cause trouble.

I could see some value in meeting with them one on one without any pre-conditions in order to communicate that they need to be careful not to make a fatal mistake and doom their nation to complete devastation. Then when they brag about how strong they are we provide them with some insights into how outgunned they really are.

North Korea has been denied one on one negotiations for the last fifty years, because, I presume, it would legitimize the NK government. At any rate, NK would demand, the US would refuse. When I read that NK was going to get for free what was denied them after breaking every agreement there has been regarding nukes, it felt like NK had won something. I’m glad to see Trump demanding an end to NK’s nuke program before even considering talking to them one on one.

You guys have it right here, and this is the model of how things play out all the time.

The media spins it, and our folks buy in hook line and sinker.

I catch myself doing it at times also. They’re slick at it, and you have to watch yourself.

Thanks for touching on it once again.

You’re both right on target > IMO.

Trump/Tillerson as a pair look incompetent if they can’t publicly agree on this. As the boss, Trump is responsible to manage his key reports; it comes with the job. The failure to do so undermines his own credibility on what could be the single most important issue of his entire presidency; war against the Norks.

I’m glad to see Trump demanding an end to NK’s nuke program before even considering talking to them one on one.

It is an idealistic meaningless demand. Pixy dust. The US has been saying that for ages and NK and Iran continue their nuke programs. By default the US including Trump has accepted a nuclear NK. Trump is not going to do anything about NK except tweet. I think NK is so isolated it doesn't realize how dangerous a game they are playing. Nothing will happen until they make a mistake, e.g. perhaps accidentally land a missile in some Japanese city.

*** Mr Tillerson is an idiot ***

I mostly like Tillerson. I think he tries to “turn the volume down” on things that could escalate tragically.
