Anatomy of a Stunner: How Roy Moore Lost an Unlosable Race in Alabama
Townhall ^ | Dec 13, 2017 | Guy Benson

Posted on 12/13/2017 1:46:16 PM PST by detective

In a shocking political earthquake, the Republican Party has lost a Senate election in Alabama.  For perspective on how difficult that feat was, the closest previous Senate contest in that state over the last two decades was a...19-point GOP victory.  Just three years ago, Jeff Sessions ran unopposed.  Donald Trump carried 'Bama by 28 points last fall.  In my election preview post yesterday, I wrote that an upset by liberal Doug Jones was improbably plausible, due exclusively to the disastrously awful candidate Republicans had nominated.  Apologies for quoting myself, but here you go:

Republicans stayed home.

Moore got about half the votes Trump had gotten.

Only a very bad candidate could lose in Al.

Clearly, Moore was not well liked in Al. and should not have been the primary candidate.

And they stayed home because the Republican establishment came out full force against Moore and even publicly donated to his opponent.

Total nonsense. The airbrushing of history by the GOPe and their toadies like Guy Benson has begun.

That seems to be it. They wouldn’t vote for the D, but enough of them believed the allegations, so they just didn’t vote.

And to be perfectly frank, some of the stuff he DID admit to gave me the creeps, but it was 40 years ago. It doesn’t really matter today. If everything every one of us did in their life was suddenly exposed, I think we’d all spend at least a little time in prison. I outran the cops once back in 1973.

Don’t tell my mom.

I trust Gloria will enjoy the Swiss bank account Mitch set up for her. She earned it.

So why did the same Republicans vote for him in the primary? Because McConnell sabotaged Mo Brooks.

We not only lose a critical senate seat, but we get stuck with a timid Attorney General who is afraid of his own shadow. Hopefully AG Sessions will come out of his coma in 2020 and try get get his seat back.

Not one republican, especially not this jerk, even bothered to as “What if he’s not guilty?”

When republicans don’t care about the law it’s over for all of us. I didn’t like Roy Moore but I was disgusted by watching him get railroaded. I can’t watch TV, I gag every time I see the faces.

He lost the same way Hitlary did. Overconfident and highly unlikable...

Because McConnell sabotaged Mo Brooks.

That's exactly right.

This whole thing was completely misplayed by everyone in the GOP from the leadership down to the voters in Alabama.

It's astonishing, actually. It was the equivalent of a football team taking the field against an inept opponent and having every single offensive possession end in a turnover when all they needed was to kick one field goal to win the game 3-0.

Moore lost because McConnell, Rove and other RINOs spent $10 million trashing conservatives Brooks and Moore, and trying to throw the nomination to their own guy, who wound up losing the primary anyway

Internal strife is never a recipe for success.

The dems that crossed over for Trump care about immigration and job re-shoring, and little else from the R platform, and don’t want conservatives in their social sphere.

I'd also suggest that nobody who goes by the name and title like "Judge Moore" should ever run for public office outside of a judiciary post.

Nobody likes to deal with a judge in their lives, even if he/she is the best judge in the world.

I have a hard time believing that of all the republicans who dragged themselves out of bed to pull the lever for Mitt Romney (the republican champion of gay "marriage" and socialized medicine), less than half of them would show up to prevent a proabortion / proinvasion democrat from taking an Alabama Senate seat. This smells rotten. I'd really like to see a post election investigation of Jefferson County. I have no doubt boots on the ground could turn up more than 66,309 Moore voters.

The candidate Trump endorsed, Luther Strange, would have easily won and kept the seat Republican.

What do you suppose he knew that all the smart people didn’t?

His Rino party in Congress and RNC both came out against him and worked extensively for the Democrats as they often do behind the scenes. Then he was painted as a child molester by the MSM when nothing he did 30 years ago fit that description. It was disgusting from the get go. I’m ashamed to be associated with the RINO party.

“He lost the same way Hitlary did. Overconfident and highly unlikable...”

A lot of factors went into his loss, including the Dems doing massive GOTV work.
