Please tell me you are not making an excuse for this sadistic sick cop.

Cop: Do a handstand and walk backwards towards me!
I said `Hands up’!

Because you are totally in a safe and secure position to do that without risk of being shot yourself.

The shooter was not the one yelling instructions. That officer took of to the Philippines and can’t face extradition.

If what Flick states is true.. the jury didn’t see the video till after the verdict. So it may have been a he said... well, he said only. The suspect was dead. If I was a juror.. this is how my mind would work. “What if this officer was the many I knew” and “what if the suspect was my son/husband/nephew”. So.. in this case if I had seen the video..the cop is guilty.

He had already done that for the officer. As hard as it may be to watch...watch the video.

Here is the longer version and shows this team was not prepared for this situation. Lots of errors on their part.

It seems dangerous to me for a cop to require a suspect to come towards him. Shouldn’t the suspect be told to stay in place and the cop go to him? Is it a usual command to have a person approach an officer when the situation is not known and the site may not be secure?

Arms would be flat and extended, Terry. Thus the arms would be facing the LENF officers and not anywhere near the belt, boot, room etc... More commands could be used, of course. The idea is this: the commands the cop used was obviously contradictory and time was not used to ensure a proper outcome. Time in this situation (a clear hallway, a clear back drop) meant slower and more clear commands could be given.

Not sure I’m understanding what you’re saying.

Do you think the cop was right to shoot?

Holy moly. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to contact the hotel and have the management tell Shaver he needed to leave his room? Have a cop at the door to make sure Shaver was not armed. Then the cops could have searched the room.

This was so unnecessary.

This was cold blooded murder! Any reasonable person will come to that conclusion after seeing this video! Disturbing and unsettling to have this happen in the U.S.

I think I saw the policeman murder the unarmed man on his knees.

There were numerous cops present. The man was on his knees crying with his hands over his head. At this point all the other cops keep their weapons trained on him while one cop approaches and cuffs him careful not to get between the other cops and the suspect.

EVERY cop present should have been charged. Someone should have taken over and deescalated the situation. Obviously there wasn’t a leader in the bunch.

“I would say it is the former. I do not send police out in dangerous situations to protect me. The GOVERNMENT sends police out to raise revenue, primarily, and incidentally to enforce compliance at the point of a gun. They do not protect.”

Excellent way of putting it! I’ve tried arguing this with my liberal, as well as my African American friends, so many times. I’ve asked them a simple question every time they complain about police brutality; “If you want BIGGER government then EXPECT a larger police force to inform the will of the STATE!”

And by the way, I was a cop for a short time. And we were never trained to pull our gun at every situation. And a lot less citizens and a lot less cops were killed back in those days. Nowadays it seems as though cops are itching to shoot SOMETHING.

The other day while walking out of the local Auto Zone I heard a high pitched diesel engine and I thought “hey, that sounds like a an APC or tank”.

Sure enough it was the Sheriff dept.’s APC with the 6 wheels.

Two heads sticking out of hatches with full military regalia and head sets. Beaming with smiles.

I thought what the hell is this world coming to.

The key phrase here is that a jury acquitted the officer. Manufacture facts and what if stories as you choose. Never forget that jury nullification works both ways.

[Wouldn’t it have made more sense to contact the hotel and have the management tell Shaver he needed to leave his room?]

Stuff like this goes back to David Koresh. The feds could have grabbed him at his daily run to the town but that would require thought.

"We did this. By allowing police extra rights that every other citizen doesn’t possess. The only important thing is that the officer went home to his family at the end of the day. (No matter how many citizens he murdered to get there.)"

Correct! Any civilian would be facing life in prison or the death penalty for this crime. The police are getting away with murder with the simple excuse "I thought he was reaching for a weapon" or "I feared for my life".

WHEN DID THIS BECOME AN EXCUSE TO USE LETHAL FORCE?

Police need to STOP SCREAMING AT CITIZENS! We the people are THE BOSS, not the other way around. Does anyone think a civilian would walk out of court with a not guilty verdict? What in the hell is wrong with our society that we keep allowing police to kill indiscriminately?

Your remark is both blatantly untrue and incredibly insulting! Do you actually know any law enforcement officers personally?

Yes, there are a FEW bad apples and this cop in Mesa was clearly in that category but to infer that MOST cops are looking for a chance to take a life is just evil! It clearly indicates that you have NO idea how the majority of police actually think or feel!
