The House concealed-carry bill is arrogant and foolish
NY Post ^ | Dec 07, 2017 | Post Editorial Board

With New York City on track for fewer than 300 homicides in 2017, the House just passed a bill to let people with concealed-carry permits issued in any state to legally pack hidden heat in every other state, no matter what the local gun laws say.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, which would also strengthen the background-check system, passed 231-198, with six Democratic “ayes” and 14 Republican “nays.”

Happily, it should die in the Senate, where it would need 60 votes but is unlikely to even get all 52 Republicans. But that doesn’t make the move any less arrogant or foolish.

The House bill goes far beyond any federal role in enforcing the Second Amendment right to bear arms — which clearly allows for regulation of that right, and says nothing about concealed-carry rights.

And even if we stipulate that concealed-carry works well enough in the areas that have chosen to license it, that’s no reason for anyone to think it would work well in areas like the city, with far different gun cultures.

“You put New Yorkers at risk . . . Who is going to pay the price for that? It’s not going to be the legislators in DC. It’s going to be us, the No. 1 terrorist target in the world,” says Manhattan DA Cy Vance, who has long warned this move would be a huge mistake.

Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC), the bill’s author, calls Wednesday’s vote “a huge win for freedom,” noting that “15 million concealed-carry-permit holders across this country” are at “risk of becoming criminals because they cross an invisible state line.”

Sorry, congressman: People take such risks in lots of areas. Or is your next bill going to protect marijuana use by those who buy in a state that has legalized pot?

Notice how the Post Editorial Board doesn't present any statistics about crimes committed by legally licensed permit holders. It prefers to lump law abiding citizens in with criminals instead and make law abiding citizens criminals if they are traveling and get stopped in a state with laws like New York. As someone who lived at the New Hampshire - Massachusetts border, I read about these arrests happening all the time.

The Feinstein "Fix NICS" gun control crap is going to get this bill killed. It's not a clean reciprocity bill.

I don't recall an amendment protecting pot, but I do remember an amendment specifically protecting bearing arms.

Although I do think that the 10A tells the feds to keep their noses out of the pot issue.

Indeed, the problem is NyC manufacturing criminals, mafias and terrorists they then export to Florida, not Floridian legal owners who come to NyC.

I am sick these arrogant schizophrenic city slickers.

What a bunch of garbage. CCW holders are less likely to be involved in gun crimes than police officers. Are they recommending reducing there police force to “keep New Yorkers safe”? Do crime stats or Constitutional rights matter anymore? States rights don’t matter for freaking gay marriage, but they’ll be damned if they’re not going to make you a FELON for carrying a lawful concealed carry weapon in their state. Screw this fish wrap dead tree blog. It can die off with all the rest.

The United States Citizens KNOW that they're going to have to fight TYRANTS in their own government.
You cannot protect life, without the ability to take life.

While you are WAITING for the police to respond, someone could be losing their life.
All people of a responsible age should be armed.

As EternalVigilance reminded us:

Click here to read the 12 page pamphlet.

Let us NEVER FORGET THAT !

Let's subjugate them to OUR end game, DUST!
"COMPROMISE" is a DIRTY word!
People who study the Bible know that COMPROMISE almost always leads to destruction.

It's time to mock the "Gun Control" Zombies!
"Gun Control" is a firm grip, steady breathing, accurate aim (developed by lots of practice), and a slow trigger pull.

"And even if we stipulate that concealed-carry works well enough in the areas that have chosen to license it, that’s no reason for anyone to think it would work well in areas like the city, with far different gun cultures."

So the dozens of states that have shall-issue concealed carry laws (or constitutional carry) don't have any cities?

You learn something new every day around here.

Crappola,
What is insane and dangerous is forcing folks who have to go to New Jersey, D.C., Chicago or N.Y., etc. unarmed and rely on some far off cop to protect us.
Sorry, the donuts were just coming out at Krispy Cream.
I got there as soon as I could.

1) Well regulated in the 2nd means well trained, not well restricted.

2) Show me where the right to abortion is mentioned in the Bill of rights.

I'm baffled. There are so many issues that have to be legislated on NOW. A budget, the Wall/border security, EVerify, and DACA but without anyone but the "dreamers" included are within reach. They could repeal the Obamacare mandate as a stand alone bill if that's what they actually wanted. Why are the 'pubs waiting and risking having one less US Senate seat in one week? And the tax cuts for the wealthy? It's a disgrace. Why aren't the names of EVERYONE who accepted government funds to silence accusers out in the open, so they could be permanently removed from political office or other employment in DC?

I'm a conservative and not an idiot, so I don't need the lectures. I'm really sick of swampthings and their deep state. They'd rather bring down the nation than to cede power.

“and says nothing about concealed-carry rights.”

Um, actually it does: “the right of the People to keep AND BEAR arms shall not be infringed.”

In the eyes of the NY Post and every other newspaper, all gun owners are criminals just waiting for their chance to run amok. Got news for them - We all have that opportunity every day. And we don’t do it. Why? Largely for the same reasons we own guns. We tend to protect people, not terrorize them the way the MSM does, 24/7/365.

Hey, what the hell. If the people of Alabama have to recognize gay marriage because Massachusetts has it, then let the people of Massachusetts be able to carry guns because they can in Alabama.

Dear Post Editorial Board:

The definition of “well regulated” in 1776 was “well trained”.

NOT legislated ‘regulated’.

The definition of “the militia” was “the people”.

NOT the military only.

“A well trained militia, necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”.

I carry and have carried in NYC, DC, Atlantic City and many other places that have illegal laws that restrict my 2nd Amendment RIGHTS.

Now, I will admit, that if caught, I would face a legal battle and would be looking at jail time.

That being said, I go back to the old standby, I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
