Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), the longest serving member of the House of Representatives and the subject of a flurry of sexual-misconduct allegations in the last few weeks, said he was "retiring today" during a radio interview Tuesday.
"I'm in the process of putting my retirement plans together and I'll have more of that very soon," Conyers said in an interview with the station, Praise 102.7.
No sooner had he announced plans to vacate his seat, however, than an intra-family feud erupted into public view over who would take it over.
The embattled Michigan Democrat said on Tuesday that he wanted his son, John Conyers III, to replace him when he departs. But earlier in the morning, Conyers' nephew, Ian Conyers, said that he would be seeking the seat.
“I’m absolutely going to file for his seat, Ian Conyers, a state senator, told the New York Times. "The work of our congressional district, where I come out of, has to continue."

If you go looking at the listing, there’s competition against both Conyer dudes.
There’s a city council gal who is fairly well known around Detroit. You’ve also got the Sheriff of the county who says he’s in the running, and he’s got name-recognition. And then there’s the illegitimate son of Coleman Young (former long-term mayor of the city).
I would actually on name recognition....this Coleman Young guy....the flip of the coin. The two Conyers, I think, will cancel each other out.

Conyers is one of those politicians who probably has dementia but is a locked in vote for the democratic agenda out of habit, so everyone looks the other way. Finally got caught.

At this point the election of a new representative for that district should be thrown wide open. Hereditary offices are pretty much not a thing here in the US, even though there have been attempts to institutionalize the practice in recent years.
This is not North Korea, where they have palace intrigue confined to the immediate family.
What “work” has to continue in Detroit? That city is a fetid rotting corpse, and Captain Underpants did NOTHING to improve it for 53 years. What a joke.....
