Compared to states, the District ranks No. 2 for the percentage of adults who consume alcohol and No. 1 for the percentage of heavy drinkers, according to Detox.net, an online resource for alcohol abuse treatment programs.
According to the study, 65.9 percent of adults in D.C. have had at least one drink in the past month, second only to Wisconsins 67.3 percent. The study was based on data from the Center for Disease Control and Preventions Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, which collects health-related data from phone interviews.
The study also says 11.1 percent of D.C. adults are what it labels heavy drinkers, consuming more than two drinks daily for men and more than one drink daily for women.

Waiting for snarky comments about government and bureaucrats and congressmen and drinking..........
Blacks go for the hard stuff.
Does this surprise anybody?
They also have the most corrupt, sex pervs too.
See ya at the bar sweet cakes!
West Virginia and Kentucky are low. But what about the stereotype of Appalachian moonshine and all that?
Fake news. Have you ever been to New Hampshire? Those people can drink.
I had the same thought.
West Virginia is very much Bible Belt. Drive through the most remote back roads and places not on the map and you will find homespun churches aplenty, "Holiness Bible Church" "Holy Ghost Bible Temple "Primitive Baptist House of Worship".
If you look at the charts, the Bible Belt in general has the fewest drinkers. I used to live in a county famous for its moonshine, but no drinking problems. Most of the 'shine was produced for "export". LOL.
I think there was a time when Jack Daniels was actually distilled in a "dry" county. You could make booze, just not buy it.
What about those of us in flyover states who, contemplating what Washington bureaucrats do to the rest of the nation, are thus driven to drown our worries in immoderate drinking?
(One excuse is as good as another)
D.C. used to lead this category by a lot.
Then Ted died.
We’re number 1, we’re number one!
They also have the highest percentage of heavy gropers and vacationers.
What these statistics reflect, I strongly suspect, is only the penchant of people in different communities to keep/or not to keep what is personal business, private.
Dude... They said telephone interviews.
;>)
No offense intended towards WVA and Kentucky FReepers. Too good to pass up.

It still is. I believe they voted in beer and wine a while back, but no hard liquor.

This proves to me that Puerto Ricans lie a lot.
