Report: Trump ‘Frustrated’ With Aides Opposing Jerusalem Embassy Move

TEL AVIV – President Donald Trump reportedly became “agitated and exasperated” at the lack of action on his campaign promise to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, with sources telling the Washington Post that the White House may compromise by formally declaring Jerusalem to be Israel’s capital.

According to the report, a meeting was convened between senior national security aides with the expected outcome that Trump would once again sign the biannual waiver postponing the embassy move.

The Washington Post reported:

Over a discussion that lasted nearly an hour, Trump, who stayed longer than expected, became agitated and exasperated at what he saw as overly cautious bureaucratic hand-wringing, two people familiar with the discussion said. Focused on his campaign promise to make the move, Trump seemed frustrated with pushback about the potential backlash among Palestinians and their supporters, the people said.

The report also said that the State Department has warned its embassies in the Middle East that they can expect unrest following an announcement by the president regarding the Tel Aviv embassy later this week.

Trump was not elected to suck up to the Israel Lobby. Quite the opposite. Moving the embassy is a waste of money that does nothing to benefit America.

He can do it on his own, can’t he? Why worry about his panty-waist staff?

Well, He is the President isn’t he? And Rex Tillerson is the Secretary of State isn’t he? JUST IGNORE THEM (or fire them if they refuse to listen ) and do what needs to be done.

“Trump seemed frustrated with pushback about the potential backlash among Palestinians and their supporters, the people said.”

A great country does what it thinks is best. We are getting our policy get jerked around by a bunch of camel jockeys whims.

He has to be like Truman, who resisted all those who didn’t want to recognize Israel in 1948 and still did it.

You are absolutely right about that.

I suspect all of these media reports of discord and dissension are nothing more than smokescreens to occupy the attention of the media and the public while the Trump administration continues the same prudent policy that every administration has been following for years.

Quite the contrary, it is exactly what the U.S. should do to show it's recognition of the capital of Israel.

Iran doesn’t recognize the right of Israel to exist.

Do you have a source for that? I don’t think Iran has an embassy anywhere in Israel.

Too many Ivy League and Georgetown international relations majors dictating our foreign policy. Try and read an issue of Foreign Affairs magazine from cover to cover, and you’ll understand the kind of people inhabiting the State Department! Foreign Affairs magazine is put out by the CFR!

Trump was elected to fulfill his promises. This was one of them.

No, Iran does not have an embassy anywhere in Israel.

You may be thinking of this "art" exhibit a couple of years ago, which was temporary:

Iranian 'Embassy' Opens in Jerusalem, Without a Diplomat in Sight

Moving the embassy is a waste of money...

The US has an official building in Tel Aviv and another in Jerusalem.

The process is simple: Take a screw driver, walk up to the building in Tel Aviv, undo the screws holding the building's "Embassy" placard and remove the placard. Drive to Jerusalem, go up to the building, drill pilot holes, screw the "Embassy" placard to the building.

This was hardly a top priority for him. Trump's first foray into Middle East politics was a statement he made at one of the GOP debates in which he said he wanted the U.S. to detach itself from the Middle East and treat all the players over there more even-handedly.

He changed his tune after the predictable howls from the other GOP candidates like Marco Rubio and Lindsey Graham who are in Washington to represent the interests of their foreign handlers.

Optional (but recommended) step:

Fill in the empty screw holes in the Tel Aviv building with cement (adds a step to switch the Embassy back).
