Left-Wing Evangelicals: Is It an Oxymoron?
Christian Post ^ | 12/04/2017 | By Susan Stamper Brown

Posted on 12/04/2017 8:43:47 AM PST by SeekAndFind

Hypocrite – hip-uh-krit "a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc. that he or she does not actually possess, especially a person whose actions belie stated beliefs."

Donald Trump has been president for a year, yet my social media news feed and email inbox still overflow with stupefied left-wing evangelicals who hate Trump (literally) and loathe the conservative Christians that voted for him.

So then, where was the outrage from the same better-than-thou Chardonnay-swirling left-wing evangelical crowd when Christians voted for Obama?

It's obvious that their condemnation has less to do with evangelicalism or Christianity and more to do with their political leanings.

Otherwise, when Obama was in office, they would have expressed a little of that righteous indignation they currently can't control when Obama's policies harmed Christian bakers and nearly sent the Little Sisters of the Poor to the poor house.

If this were about Christian values, they would have joined a "resistance" movement when Obama's definition of marriage "evolved," and would have occupied the White House lawn when his administration told boldfaced lies about the slain in Benghazi.

They didn't hesitate to support a president who was "pro-choice" on third-trimester abortions, but they have zero grace for our current president -- who has already fulfilled promises on key conservative issues like judicial nominations, abortion and religious freedom.

It's sad to say and quite telling, but Trump's political positions are more Christian than theirs.

During Obama's years, there was no condemnation...no resistance...no anger because leftwing evangelicals were more committed to Obama and his leftist policies than they were to Christ.

It doesn't help that so many evangelical churches today are led by leftist clergy garbed in a cloak of religiosity like one of Obama's former spiritual advisors, Reverend Jim Wallis, the editor and founder of Sojourners magazine.

In October, Wallis wrote a scathing article titled "The Religious Right Will Rise and Fall with Donald Trump," condemning evangelical conservatives who support Trump. He wrote, "Trump is the natural conclusion to how the religious right movement began, and what it has become. When it comes to this movement, the operative word is not 'religious' (or even 'Christian'), but 'right.' (And for the vast majority of 'values voters' who are white Christians, the operative word is not 'Christian' but 'white.')"

Isn't that swell? Especially coming from a guy whose organization received funding from none other than George Soros's Open Society Institute, an organization known for financing groups that support atheism, abortion and one-world government globalism. A few years ago, Jay Richards at the National Review found that Sojourners received $325,000 from Soros's organization between 2004 and 2007 and "at least 49 separate foundation grants...totaling $2,159,346" from organizations like the Tides Foundation and the Wallace Global Fund, "which also supports ACORN and a cornucopia of population-control groups." Yes, population-control groups.

Wallis was one of eight ordained ministers and four staff members from Sojourners arrested by Capitol police Nov. 30. According to a video posted on the magazine website, the group was detained while protesting the Republican tax plan in the Senate building. They were shouting scriptures while loudly warning senators their souls were in danger if they supported the GOP's new tax plan. One woman threatened, "Senators, we put you on notice. Your souls are in danger and this is your final warning."

It's good to be concerned about souls in danger, but the train jumps the track when we redefine Christianity by cherry-picking scripture and weaponizing biblical principles to make political points. In his day, Jesus had no patience for people like that. He called them "vipers...hypocrites...sons of the devil."

If words have meaning, and indeed they do, "leftwing evangelicals" might want to drop the oxymoron and choose one label or the other. Lord knows, they can't be both.

Left wing Evangelicals continue to be a puzzle to me. They seem to have a rebellious spirit, anger, and hate. They seem to be involved in activity and cause. I hear little from them about Grace, Salvation (except that they say they're saved but show no growth or Scriptural maturity), and they seem to stand against, not for, Christian values and the Gospel. They do not seem to understand Biblical Truth.

In other words, they seem to fall right into the last verses, 18-32, of Romans One. Those verses describe a society under the Judgment of God. That generation is described as having having hate, irrational anger, no Spiritual understanding, a having a mind that does not know how to comprehend Truth.

Most Christian evangelicals who we would call leftie don’t see themselves that way...they listen to NPR or CNN and think it is normal...they believe taking care of the alien is biblical, which it is...but so is making sure vetting and legal processes are followed, because God installs all governments...which include laws...this is the part the leftist evangelicals seem to be ostriches about, and pretend to not see the death, destruction, rapes, theft, vandalism, disease that is caused by being so “blindly loving”...of course their fake news do not show them the truth...they think borders are wrong...to that, I say they are hypocritical because your locked house doors are borders. They should not be locking those to be so loving...otherwise it is being “loving” with other people’s stuff.

Yes. An oxymoron. Just the abortion issue, for a start.

A comedienne I saw on Huckabee last night said something like, “I’m not saying you won’t go to Heaven if you’re a Democrat, but do you really want to take that risk?”

Classical liberalism?

Or modern day reactionist/anarchist/Marxist liberal?

The definition has been applied incorrectly.

The term “liberal” and the modern rendering has absolutely no connection to classic liberalism.

Marxist revolutionaries? Absolutely.

It’s the Body of Christ vs the spirit of Anti-Christ.

No oxy required.

RE: Left wing Evangelicals continue to be a puzzle to me. They seem to have a rebellious spirit, anger, and hate.

Well, we’ll have to define the term “Left-wing” since it is a very broad term.

At best, I would call some of them MISGUIDED.

They talk about a God of love all the time, and ignore the fact that this God they claim to worship is also a God who PUNISHES SIN.

Hence, they would say that God loves the homosexual. True, but God also hates the homosexual act. They focus on one and ignore the other.

Secondly, on economic issues, they equate love for your fellowman ( e.g. being a good Samaritan ) with government safety nets.

In other words, if you are not for “Universal Healthcare” ( AKA “Free” Healthcare ) for example, then you are not compassionate in the same way the Good Samaritan is, and you would rather leave your neighbor by the wayside to die from his sickness.

If you do not welcome refugees from Syria, you are ignoring God’s commands to welcome the stranger in your land.

You can understand a lot of this mentality by picking up Jim Wallis’ SOJOURNERS magazine and reading some of he articles there.

Alinsky - "Tactics," p. 128, "The fourth rule is: Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules. You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity."

Progressive politicians and Progressive media's cheap attempts to utilize Alinsky are apparent if one looks for them.

NeoLiberalism, progressivism, social Marxism, whatever one chooses to label them — all are enemies of God, Christ and Christianity. And enemies of family, morality and righteousness. Their ideals, words and actions out them. Lucifer’s minions, bottom line.

Leftists can be evangelicals. Some of them are evangelical atheists. Some are evangelical satanists. None of them are Christians.

Christians left and right fall into the trap of wanting earthly leaders to rule their spiritual AND earthly being. But according to the bible there have only been two characters that fit the roe of both King and Priest , Melchizedek and Jesus. So therefore when leaders are either elected, selected, decreed or ordained they will always fall short of being both the King and Priest people desire.

The evangelical left’s criticism of President Trump’s hard line on immigrants and their claims he bullies opponents of MAGA, or his ideas of tax breaks for business growth instead of wealth distribution to the poor, and the fake alleged abuse of woman are all things they believe a true leader for God would not support. So christian liberals unbeknown to them are now really looking for their president to act like a priest and not somebody to protect the interests of the citizens of a nation, which is an ironic flip in values after 8 years of obama.

Ironically Obamas lack of regard for the ten commandments; coveting others peoples belongings, bearing false witness, murder by drones and or abortion, theft through wealth redistribution, or lying about keeping your doctor, the left is willing to ignore all of these and that Jesus wouldn't’t advocate any of this, but it OK because Obama to them is a world leader, not a priest and the ends justify the means for selecting a world leader with a globalist government .

Its an ironic but historically occurring theme for religious people to want an earthy king.

The Bible says the reason why the Israelites wanted a King is the Israelites could see that Samuel’s sons, whom he set as judges over the people, were not doing what God required and had turned into politicians—compromised and accepting bribes—perverting justice rather than upholding the righteousness of God.

They said to Samuel , “Behold, you are old and your sons do not walk in your ways; now appoint for us a king to govern us like all the nations.” (1 Samuel 8:1-5)

God stated that asking for a king is a bad idea because it amounted to the rejection of God himself, as king. Nonetheless, the Lord decides to allow the people to choose their form of government, and he tells Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them” (1 Sam. 8:7).

But kings are corrupted God knew that eventually the people would cry out to save them from the kings “When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, but the LORD will not answer you in that day.” (1 Sam. 8:18).

So this is the problem with the evangelical left, they desire a king while they reject a constitutional governing body by the people, as was the first government from Moses. They also want their leader be a priest but know outside of Jesus no man is righteous to be the king and priest. So the evangelical left compromises and just settles for promoting one of the two; a king while will willfully ignoring any shortcomings of their mortal leader as long as at least this leader promotes the one world agenda the one ruler and king they so desire, even though God has shown us no earthly king will ever replace him.

Since one of the main sacraments of the left is killing the inconvenient baby, it is not possible for any leftist to be an evangelical.

left-wing evangelicals

What is the "gospel" they are promoting?

Odds are very good that it is not the gospel, but another gospel. Here's what the Holy Spirit has to say about that:

6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. (Galatians 1:6-8)

"Perversion" is what charactizes the left -- sodomites, sodomite "marriage", cross-dressing in various forms including surgical alteration. It's all an abomination.

No, it’s not an oxymoron. There are folks who are very lefty who are also very Christian. Most are black. A few are white but they’re disappearing.

Sadly, the Christian experience amongst whites these days is pretty much limited to those who take a right wing political perspective. Its not enough to believe in Christ and his teachings, you seemingly also have to also buy in to the catechism of the gop wing of the uniparty as well. Not surprisingly, that’s a tough sell for a lot of would be Christians.

Politics has been an unmitigated disaster for Christianity over the last 40 years.
