Hello Freepers. This is my very first post, so, Kevin, I didn’t mean it specifically to you. I’m afraid I don’t have the ‘to everyone’ thing quite down yet.

I do have a general question that I hope someone can enlighten me about. I have a brother who is currently an inmate at McAlester prison in OK. Its the “big house” for the state.

I was finally able to visit him recently. However, you may as well be applying for a visa to Timbukto before you can get onto a particular inmates visiting schedule. Of course, criminal history, DL,concealed carry and other background checks, etc are all run on every prospective visitor. I understand this completely. Then, you must wait for your inmate to let you know (via snail mail only) that you are now his approved list. My visitor approval took about six weeks. At the time of visit, the only piece of paper allowed inside is your drivers license (out of the wallet). They take your keys & DL and lock them up for the duration of the visit.

So, who can tell me how or why these herds of ‘voter registration assistants’ are being allowed into these prisons with apparently free reign to get these inmates registered. I truly don’t understand how this system is working and,very quickly at that...just in time to meet the deadline for voting in AL? I’m betting not one single of the persons who apparently are allowed into these facilities have gone through criminal histories and background checks and all the rest that entails. It makes me wonder if some kind of quid pro quo is going on here. I certainly don’t know, and, if anyone has some logical explanation, I’d sure like to hear it. Thanks all for your patience.
