White House Considering Plan for Relocating Embassy in Israel
Wall Street Journal ^ | 11/30/17 | Felicia Schwartz and Andrew Ackerman

The Trump administration is considering a plan to formally recognize Jerusalem as the “undivided” capital of Israel and to move the U.S. Embassy there in the future, U.S. officials said, steps that could trigger Palestinian protests and imperil the restart of a long-stalled peace process.

The Trump administration has begun notifying U.S. embassies overseas about the plan so envoys can inform their host governments and prepare for possible protests. Officials said the plans weren’t final, however, and the U.S. was working through additional legal and policy considerations. A formal announcement could come as early as next week, the officials said.

“The president has always said it is a matter of when, not if,” a White House spokesman said when asked about moving the embassy. “The president is still considering options and we have nothing to announce.”

“The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him. Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it” (Zechariah 12:1-3).

Laughing at the thoughts of “imperiling the peace process”. That’s a good one.

Before now it was not possible to move the Embassy.

The primary reason it can be moved now is that our Arab allies in Egypt, Jordan and the GCC have in effect deserted the Radical islamist and that includes the Palestinians.

Trump has known this was going to come to pass all along and could make the promise

The message was delivered by the President in no uncertain terms on the red carpet in Riyadh

WWJD? The sooner the better. The United States cannot afford missteps with Israel. . .God’s chosen land. . .God’s chosen people. I believe President Trump and Vice-President Pence get it!

I’ve watched Trump’s “we’ll move our embassy to Jerusalem” rhetoric very closely. I now believe it is all bluffing and bluster. Stick and carrot stuff directed to the Palestinians.

Trump uses this tactic frequently: “hey friend, get serious about negotiating with me or your worst nightmare will soon come true”. It’s all part of his “art of the deal” approach to damn near everything he does.

“Yes, the “long stalled peace process” that never was.”

As I understand the definition of the word “process”, it is a series of steps performed to obtain a pre-defined outcome. Kind of like sticking pellets into a plastic molding machine and coming out with a nice shiny timing belt cover.

They are BUTCHERING the language here. In this case there is no pre-defined outcome...no one knows if any type of ‘peace’ will come of it. What they’re really saying is that Israel needs to bend over and take it...because that is necessary for this to be a ‘process’.

Sickening. At least during Vietnam, they called it the Paris Peace Talks (back when people took words seriously), not the “Paris Peace Process”...because, like now, no one know the end result.

1-This has nothing to do with the "peace process". The move has been delayed for several decades not because of a "peace process", but due the the damage to our national security the move would cause.

2-Stop the leaks, deliberate. If we're going to do it, fine, if not, we'll be more secure. But 20+ years of talking is enough. The + referring to the years discussing it before Congress passed a law requiring the move.

The Palestinians only want peace when Israel is kicking their butts.

It’s all planned. I recognize the tactic (homeopathic, shall we say in this situation), and it works well sometimes.

Eh, actually there are a couple of tiny island nations where that's also the case. For example, the capital city of Barbuda is St. John's . However, the U.S. embassy and all diplomatic functions between the U.S. and Barbuda are done in the city of Bridgetown .

I think its also true of the Netherlands (the capital city is Amsterdam, while the U.S. embassy is in The Hague)

We still have no diplomatic relations with Bhutan. I can think of so many people that would make wonderful ambassadors to that place.

Sounds like despite recognition the embassy still isn’t moving, yet.

There is no “peace process” and there hasn’t been for years so that shouldn’t be an excuse.
