WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate on Tuesday is poised to confirm one of President Donald Trump's legal advisers to serve on a powerful appellate court.

Gregory Katsas has worked on some of the president's most high-profile and contentious decisions, including his executive orders restricting travel for citizens of predominantly Muslim countries and his decision to end a program protecting some young immigrants from deportation.

Democratic lawmakers have argued that they don't trust Katsas, 53, will be truly independent in cases involving the president, but they are relatively powerless to stop his confirmation.

Katsas serves as deputy assistant to the president and deputy counsel. He sought to assure lawmakers during his confirmation hearing that he will recuse himself from any cases that overlap with his work at the White House.

Trump’s judges are sorely needed. Hillary’s would have inspired despair for the fate of the Republic.

Again, as I have posted many times before, this is why it is imperative that we maintain the Senate majority, even tho it means putting up with some we don’t like - including RINOs and Moore.

Keep in mind that all Republicans have voted for these judges.

It is imperative. Why is the senate getting this exactly right, good judges approved, BUT seem to fumble one so many other things?

I have no good answer, but I’ll take the judges.

I agree, our disgust with the GOP can’t lead us to allow the Democrats to take the Senate.

They don’t have the lobby issues to deal with.

Very true. The judicial system has been over populated with liberal activists judges, and as angry as we get with the GOP, we need them to vote to change that. Just saying we need to run conservative candidates that will win.

He is replacing the retired Janice Rogers Brown. It is a shame she never made it to the Supreme Court. Imagine if we had had her instead of Roberts.

By comparison, it would appear on the issue of judges, Trump “gets it” more the either Bush did.

Except for the Supreme Court, all federal courts are established by Congress. Trump and the GOP ought to abolish all those courts, while simultaneously establishing new ones —all with Trump appointees ready to be confirmed. If organized properly, we could have a new judiciary in a day.

“Again, as I have posted many times before, this is why it is imperative that we maintain the Senate majority, even tho it means putting up with some we don’t like - including RINOs and Moore.”

What! Why don’t you want to SEND A MESSAGE!!!!

If the Senate ‘tax cut’ passes, my taxes will go up by $3.85 per year - therefore to TEACH THE REPUBLICANS A LESSON, and I’m going to support putting SCHUMER IN CHARGE OF JUDGES.

Yep, that will sure teach McConnell a lesson (as if he cares). And if the country’s future is ruined, my kids and grand kids can GO TO HELL!!! Why, because I want to SEND A MESSAGE to those HORRIBLE REPUBLICANS for raising my taxes by $3.85 per year (I need that money for my boat payment).

(obviously I hope most can realize the dripping sarcasm...but we do have people here all set to vote that way)

"Trump’s judges are sorely needed. Hillary’s would have inspired despair for the fate of the Republic."

What Republic? The American Republic ceased to exist decades ago.

More likely, Hillary’s judges would have inspired despair for any possibility for restoring the former Republic.

True, but I think getting judges through trumps everything else. The ability to be on the court for 30+ years will ensure crap won’t get through if democrats ever get the White House again.

We have to understand that 2018 must be the Republican’s year in the Senate. They have a huge advantage in the number of their vulnerable incumbents vs. that of the Democrats. If they can’t pick up seats in ’18, what can we expect when the tables turn in ’20 and ’22???
