San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz on Monday continued to criticize the Trump administrations relief efforts in Puerto Rico while she praised the Clinton Foundation.
During an appearance on MSNBC, Cruz discussed the islands widespread power outages and called for a transition to renewable energy sources. She praised the Clinton Foundation for providing the island with solar panels, saying the organization has formed an "alliance" with Puerto Rico that has helped bring power back to the island.
"We're still in a life-and-death situation," Cruz said. "And we need to get our power back, get it restored, but we need to also get the alliances in place, like the Clinton Foundation that is energizing part of San Juan, a farmers market, with solar panels and solar energy. We need to set that foundation for moving forward."
Her assessment of nonprofit established by former President Bill Clinton diverged sharply with her judgment of the federal government. She said the Trump administration has not met the same standards as the Clinton Foundation and other organizations.
"The heart of the American people has been there. Unfortunately, the Trump administration has not been up to par," she said. "They have not been doing the job with the respect and dignity that we deserve, and that contrasts starkly with the heart of the American people."
The Clinton Foundation itself has faced criticism for actions related to the Caribbean island of Haiti. Specifically, the foundation came under scrutiny for awarding donors with contracts in the rebuilding efforts following Haitis 2010 earthquake. Hillary Clinton and her presidential campaign, however, denied allegations of favoritism.
Cruz also praised various organizations for their help, including the charity Operation Blessing and the AFL-CIO union.
"The AFL-CIO took 320 union workers from different unions in the United Statesdoctors, medics, people that went to Puerto Rico, out of San Juanfor two weeks. We hosted them in our municipality and were able to touch 34 communities outside of the San Juan area."
Cruz has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump since the early days of the Puerto Rican relief efforts. Trump, in turn, questioned her leadership, and the two have disagreed publicly about how relief efforts are to proceed.
My parents had their power restored in St Croix right before Thanksgiving.
She’s going for Time’s person of the year.
Anecdotal, but an acquaintance of mine from Puerto Rico says that the situation there is very bad but it is the political corruption that is at the root cause.
Didn’t 60 Minutes do a feature on the efforts there just this past Sunday? I avoided it largely because I did not want to listen to that character if they gave her any attention.
as someone commented earlier....
Lets see....the Clinton Foundation puts solar panels on ONE farmers market...
amazing how the impression is given Clinton solar panels are all over the place. FakeNews.
Mayor Cruz is looking like Kathleen Blanco squared.
Has the corruption of the “Clinton Foundation” merged with the Democrat corruption of the Solyndra/SolarEnergy scams into yet another generation of leftwing financial piracy disguised as charity?
And of the AFL-CIO union member doctors, what kind of doctor in the US are unionized? My suspicion is that they have been more leftwing agitators than practicing physician and the kind more sympathetic to Che Guevarra than Marcus Welby.
In any case, the obvious propaganda nature of the PR mayor's statement should make her claims a priority for extensive conservative media follow up.
Indeed. I wonder if she’s bothered to tell the people of Haiti about her high regard of the Clinton Foundation as we all know about what kind of a bang up job that organization did in that country, eh?
Imagine having to face a natural disaster with that 2 legged leftist shrew as your mayor? Shes the exact opposite of a Rudy G. and how the moron voters in San Juan elected her is a testament to their stupidity as well.
Now we know the reasons why Bill went to Puerto Rico: 1) to get laid, always a primary motivation; 2) gain support with the PR community which has a population in Florida. Set up for Hillary 2020; 3) probably secure some donation for the fund; and 4) to get laid.
Shouldn’t she be thanking some Arab country or ....Russia?
“Lets see....the Clinton Foundation puts solar panels on ONE farmers market, while Trump and the fedgov is working to restore the entire islands electricity and much other infrastructure.”
And it’s probably a farmers market owned by a Clinton donor.
the check cleared
IMPO, The Clinton Foundation doesn’t give money, it invests money. Now is the time to buy property in PR, take advantage of their dilemma, buy cheap, develop and make a bundle. Its a tropical Island waiting to expand. I see lots of resort opportunities. A tropical Nevada.
FUPR
Wow, really? Did she miss what the Clinton foundation did in Haiti?
Ohhh, wait... no. Because if they did that in PR, she would be getting payoffs from the Clinton Foundation for looking the other way too...
