Donald Trump's attacks on broadcaster CNN are an "an outrageous assault" on freedom of speech, according to former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director Michael Hayden.

“If this is who we are or who we are becoming, I have wasted 40 years of my life,” the former spy chief, who now works as a national security analyst for the broadcaster, said in a Twitter post.

General Hayden, who is also a former director of the National Surveillance Agency (NSA), added: "Until now it was not possible for me to conceive of an American President capable of such an outrageous assault on truth, a free press or the first amendment."

Trump doesn’t have 1st Amendment protection? Just those in the media?

Amazing.

The General says what he wants to and still breaths!

The news stations broadcasts him saying it and still has a license!

That sounds like the First Amendment to me.

Let me see, this is the guy who headed up the agency that did not see the fall of the berlin wall, thought there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and had on board a spy working for the Ruskies. Well, perhaps he is not as smart as he thinks he is so he should STFU and go collect his money from the clinton news network relying upon his former titles.

We have not had a free press for over 60 years.

Gen. Hayden has been and is part of the problem.

The drain is getting closer......

I wonder what this dude thinks of the 4th Amendment protection against unreasonable governmental searches and seizures - for instance NSA/CIA spying on everybody for no reason and creating for the NSA/CIA the ability to plant fake evidence on anybody’s computer...

See, Hayden, we recognize who the real enemy of the US Constitution is, and it ain’t Donald Trump!

“I have wasted 40 years of my life”

Incorrect. - you are definitely a waste, but in reality you have forced us to tolerate your directed evolution of a military capability supporting the defense of our country into an unconstitutional political tool that manipulates/blackmails all branches of our government to merely defend a bureaucracy that you once led.

You should be in jail.

Release the “dossiers” that are kept on EVERY American in full, and after we read what you have gathered on us as individual, We non-treasonous Americans can decide your fate along with past leaders of the “intelligence” community that have willfully violated the Constitution and the law instead of supporting and defending our Constitution.

We haven’t wasted YOUR time “General” - you have threatened our very way of life, and our Constitution.

” He is currently a principal at the Chertoff Group, a security consultancy co-founded by former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.[8]”

That’s got to be Strike Three.

“Until now it was not possible for me to conceive of an American President capable of such an outrageous assault on truth...”

CNN is truth?????!!!!!!

He is a weird little guy. He thinks he is perpetually supposed to be IN CHARGE, he is not, and he is becoming unhinged.

Trump has not approached the abuses of Abraham Lincoln, and never will and doesn’t have the desire, when it comes to trying to stop a free press.

I guess these three didn't have any "freedom of speech," eh?

Three journalists quit CNN in fallout from retracted Russia story

The way I look at it, CNN is just filled with employees who haven't been fired yet for running phony news stories.

T is not actually freedom of the press that preserves liberty. The press is merely a tool to inform a free people and they are what preserve liberty. But until recently we have not been well-served by our free press as behemoths like CNN and the networks crowded out alternative voices. Now with Fox, the internet and various their sources we have a free press.

You see, if you disagree with NSA, you are committing an “outrageous assault”.

And the NSA would know, 'cause they listen in on your phone, ... and Trump's.

I had to listen to this elderly fool on CNN which was blaring in an airport lounge about a week ago; he talks like this all the time, its how he is paid by CNN. No disclaimers that he was head of NSA when it produced such wonderful intelligence on starting the second Iraq war, probably the greatest disaster in American history in its human and monetary costs and impact on the Middle East I would suggest Hayden make up for his “wasted” 40 years by visiting veterans hospitals and the maimed and wounded from his and Bush’s misadventure.

I am not positive, but I think that even though the dude is a retired General, he needs to watch his mouth. I think he is still subject to the UCMJ, as far as bad mouthing POTUS goes.

Exactly. Why would a retired military be an expert on criticism of the media?
