Pentagon headed for another stopgap budget in December

The Pentagon is likely to be dealt another budget heartbreak in December.

Military leaders have made it crystal clear for months that they want Congress to lift a Budget Control Act spending cap for defense and pass a 2018 budget that allows the services to start new programs, buy spare parts and contract for fighter jets and other hardware.

A budget punt with another continuing resolution is not what the Pentagon wanted.

“It's just a waste of money and we need to be able to plan in advance,” Chief Pentagon spokesperson Dana White said.

White has been using her weekly press briefings to point out the military has operated under a continuing resolution for more than 1,000 days during the past decade, which she says delays needed maintenance and causes anxiety in the defense industrial base.

“We need Congress to pass a robust and predictable budget,” she said. “We need an FY18 appropriations budget before Dec. 8.”

This is totally bogus. Not unexpected though considering the civil war going on in Congress. Boots suffer while actually doing their job without the proper equipment and not enough training, eh, Navy?

Just to save some time...summary of what is happening today (they’re going after the opium labs in Afghanistan with the F-22...)

“The US is now hitting the Taliban way it hit ISIS”

AFGHANISTAN’S SUPER TUCANOS: While U.S. B-52s did the heavy bombing, Afghanistan’s fledging air force was technically leading the Sunday attacks. The service bombed two of the drug labs with its A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft, and the U.S. destroyed eight other targets with B-52s and an F-22. In one case, Nicholson said a B-52 dropped a 2,000-pound bomb on a facility where over 50 barrels of opium were cooking at the time of the strike, worth millions of dollars. The claim reflects the level of intelligence the U.S. has about what was going on at the target.

I mean, fine, but I don’t think that in itself would buy a huge number of airplanes.

Boots suffer

There is plenty of money. The principal reason boots suffer is the amount of money skimmed off the defense budget by inside the beltway contractors and consultants (look at the highrise building program in Tysons VA - who is paying for that) [and no I am not here targeting the guys who actually make stuff, but the large industry that exists to skim to hire people to interfere in the making of stuff - it is the swamp's biggest industry).

Until you fix the corrupt and dreadfully wasteful defense acquisition process there is no helping the boots on the ground. The money just won't penetrate through the containment walls of the swamp to get there.

hmmm. there was a news program on wasteful government spending...during the last administration. Goofy stuff. Why don’t we ever hear of this stuff? I’m sure there are LOTS OF boot families that need to know why their warriors have to buy their own new boots after they’ve worn their allocated pair during a 7 month deployment to helmand province.
