In 2016, the U.S. economy served as a punching bag for then-candidate Donald Trump. Today, it has become a lifeline for an otherwise embattled presidency.
Trump has increasingly grabbed for that line, touting low unemployment, record high stock market values and healthy economic growth rates in speeches and his ubiquitous tweets.
Reactions from voters, even some who are otherwise skeptical of the president, show how the economy's strong performance has bolstered Trump's standing.
At a recent focus group that Peter Hart, a longtime Democratic pollster, conducted in Wilmington, N.C., for Emory University, even participants who voted for Trump last year sharply criticized his administration, calling it "chaotic" "embarrassing" and disappointing.
Of the five Trump voters among the dozen participants, only one still strongly supported the president. The harsh critiques from the other four followed a pattern that Hart found earlier this year, illustrating how a segment of Trump voters, mostly college-educated and middle- to upper-income whites, have turned against him because of his behavior.
But when the subject turned to the economy, opinions of Trump noticeably warmed.
Trump wants to bring the economy jobs infrastructure, construction, said Katrina Harrell, a 38-year-old black self-employed businesswoman who voted for Hillary Clinton last year. Harrell was extremely critical of almost all other aspects of the administration, but on the economy she gave Trump credit.....

I was recently told by someone that the economy “seems” good, but it really hasn’t improved at all, and if it has, “Obama did it”.
If inly the State Controlled Media would report it. FOX does a half way decent job but not the others.
You went to a Hillary book signing?
LOL

For 8 years the establishmedia pumped up the Barak economy like it was the Reagan years.
Only 63 million Americans gave him a chance. 535 members of Congress not so much. Democrats not at all. Insane leftists like antifa not at all. "Impeach" started before he was inaugurated.
To call this "embattled" is just plain stupid. It is only because he has not been accorded the respect every other POTUS has been given. The country has never experienced an active "resist" movement against a duly elected government. If anything, a freedom loving American people should have resisted Obamunism, but we respectfully tolerated the gay kenyan communist moslem until his eight years were over.
Trump's biggest successes will be the economy (including rolling back the horrible excesses of regulation and environmentalism that killed the economy in the first place) and foreign affairs/defense. Those alone will make him among the greatest presidents.
But if it had suddenly crashed then it’s Trump’s fault. I see this works. *eye roll*
“Longtime Democratic pollster” is all I need to know. Stopped right there.
I fear they progressives are going to try and sabotage the economy just before the 2018 elections.
People fall for the media narrative for everything else but can otherwise see a good economy.
This is what the Marxists have so desperately tried to halt.
Success. Making America Great Again and America First is a danger to their communist aspirations and Marxist inspirations.
The Trump Train is unbound, and may very well roll over Congress and the Senate UNIPARTY, as well.
In my lifetime presiding over a bad economy would be held against you, like Carter and George Bush. Even Klinton in 1994. But we were told that sluggish socialism was the “new normal” and told lies about “recovery summers” and “green shoots” etc, from the last admin. Hope the improving economy gets better and he is rewarded for the credit he deserves.
I think it will be hard for them. We have the BIG MO, momentum, on our side.
Plus the regulations DJT is cutting back on will start to let the economy really get up to speed.
IMHO, the most important statistic is not unemployment, but labor force participation. Under Obama there were a lot of discouraged workers -- people who thought they might never get a job and who had stopped looking. These guys do not count in the unemployment rate, but they sure feel the hurt. Trump has stopped the decline, and it is turning around. It may not match the highs seen in the 90s, simply because boomers have been retiring for a few years. But, in my little rural town, virtually everyone who wants to work has a job, a far cry from the past decade. Even low skill and marginal types can find some kind of a paying job. And skilled workers are in high demand.
Thank you.
Man, I hate those bastards more every day.
“Strong economy boosts Trump among otherwise skeptical voters”
just as predicted. the fake stream media can attack trump 24x7x365 all they want, but it will all be for naught and trump will easily be reelected in 2020 as long as he revs up the economy and keeps it revved up.
It’s the economy, stupid. ............................ It sure is, we need work done and we can’t get it done quick, because all the contractors are busy as hell. They are building homes all around us, and putting in new roads. Yes its FLA, but its buzzing again.
“Of the five Trump voters among the dozen participants.....” So they are learning. Now they try using minuscule samples in a blue city.
