The Biggest Disappointment in Trump's Presidency
Townhall.com ^ | Nov 18, 2017 | Jeff Crouere

In this first 300 days, President Trump has faced intense opposition from a variety of enemies. Of course, Democrats and the media have been opposed to everything he has proposed. The “deep state” bureaucrats have proven to be a formidable adversary as well. Unfortunately, “Never Trump” conservatives and establishment Republicans have also been very uncooperative. His legislative agenda has been stalled as Obamacare has not been repealed, despite eight years of GOP promises, and the prospect of the tax reform package passing the U.S. Senate looks very questionable.

Acting on his own, President Trump has been successful in issuing executive orders and slashing regulations. He has brought a new attitude to foreign relations, trade deals and has shown his unflinching support for our military, both active service members and veterans.

Despite an impressive track record of presidential actions, Trump has been needlessly hampered by the ongoing Russian collusion investigation led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. It has been like an ominous cloud hovering over his administration.

This would have never happened had Attorney General Jeff Sessions not removed himself from all investigations into potential Russian interference in the 2016 election. His action led the Assistant Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to appoint Mueller, who has spent months recruiting a partisan team of Democratic attorneys to join this investigation.

The first set of Mueller indictments targeted former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, his aide and a low level national security volunteer. The illegal behavior alleged by the Special Counsel did not involve the President or “Russian collusion.”

Mueller will not be deterred from issuing more indictments in the days ahead. While these proceedings are supposedly secret, the media was given advance notice of the decision to issue criminal charges. A member of the Special Counsel’s office may very well have committed a crime.

It is not a surprise that more leaks are coming out that former Trump National Security Advisor Lt. General Michael Flynn may be the next target for the Special Counsel. At this point, no one knows how long this investigation will last or how much it will cost the American people. In essence, Mueller is operating a shadow Justice Department with Donald Trump in his legal cross-hairs.

It is little wonder why the President was furious with Sessions who created this Mueller monster. In addition, Sessions, in congressional testimony, vowed to remove himself from investigations involving Hillary Clinton, her foundation and the 2016 election. Thus, despite compelling evidence of potential criminal behavior by Hillary Clinton involving the Uranium One deal, the Clinton Foundation fundraising activities, her campaign’s suspicious funding of the Trump dossier and her scandalous treatment of top secret emails, no formal investigation of Clinton has been announced by the Justice Department.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is handicapped by his vows to remove himself from the serious issues that need his attention. While he has been vocal on the issue of combating illegal immigration, he has been unwilling to act on critical matters that impact the survival of the Trump administration.

Due to these significant failings, the President needs to fire Sessions, along with Rosenstein and Andrew McCabe, two Obama administration holdovers in senior positions in the Justice Department. A new Attorney General should fire Special Counsel Mueller, who is hopelessly comprised in his investigation by his close friendship with former FBI Director James Comey. The next move should be the appointment of an independent and reputable Special Counsel to investigate the numerous Hillary Clinton scandals.

This week, Sessions testified before the House Judiciary Committee and had to admit his recall was faulty on a number of issues. Furthermore, he did not project any confidence that he is up to the challenge of reforming the Justice Department and pursuing the real investigations that are desperately needed in our country.

Undoubtedly, Jeff Sessions is a man of character and integrity; however, he lacks the determination, aggressiveness and tenacious attitude that are essential to fight the many forces arrayed against change in the Justice Department.

The sooner the President gives Sessions The Apprentice treatment and says, “You’re Fired,” the better. He has been given 10 months to lead the Justice Department and he has failed miserably. In fact, the lackluster performance of the Attorney General has been the biggest disappointment in the Trump administration. If the President does not act soon, the consequences for his administration could be devastating.

“Rod Rosenstein was also appointed by Trump.”

At the urging of Sessions. I’m sure Trump had no idea that Rosenstein would end up running the place. Ya ignorant fark.

The DOJ is TOTALLY CORRUPT and incestuous. It needs to be gutted top to bottom. I would rather have NO DOJ than a corrupt and politicized DOJ...which is what we have now.

Why didn’t Trump do this after that POS beady-eyed rat bastard recused himself? Because the Repukis would impeach him.

Next.

Dead farking wrong.

“I believe Sessions is an honorable man.”

zeestephen: “Rod Rosenstein was also appointed by Trump.”

Electric Graffiti: “At the urging of Sessions.”

I spent about 20 minutes on Google researching your claim that Sessions urged Trump to nominate Rosenstein.

I can't find anything that confirms that.

Did you just make that up?

If not, please send me a link that confirms your claim.

By the way, while I was researching Rosenstein’s nomination, I learned that almost every Democrat in the Senate voted to confirm Rosenstein.

Bottom Line - Trump knew exactly what he was doing when he nominated Rosenstein. The responsibility for that nomination falls on Trump, and no one else.

“[Sessions] picked someone[Rosenstein] who grew up in the department and knows how cases are decided, and should be decided.”

— Jamie Gorelick, deputy attorney general from 1994-1997

It’s one man against a 4 trillion dollar corrupt stasi state, both parties, corrupt courts, propaganda media and blue states.

Trump couldn’t MAGA alone. He made hiring overtures to the rinos in the kabuki party and was repaid with treachery. If you can’t see the forces aligned against him then you’re either brain dead or one of those cruzhole neverTrumpers- Bleating endlessly that if only Trump did this or that. He’s extraordinary-not superman, moron.

Thanks for the Gorelick quote.

I did another 2 hours of research on this subject.

Rod Rosenstein was chosen by Trump's Transition Team, and Sessions was a member of that team.

However, there is no evidence that Sessions knew Rosenstein personally, or that Sessions “urged” (your words) Trump to choose Rosenstein.

Instead, it appears that Trump authorized Sessions to choose his own deputy, the Transition Team recommended Rosenstein, and Sessions agreed.

Here is a supporting quote from a New York Times (paywall) Trump interview on 19 July 2017:

Trump, speaking about Sessions: “Then I said, ‘Who’s your deputy?’ So, his deputy he hardly knew, and that’s Rosenstein, Rod Rosenstein, who is from Baltimore.”

Bottom Line - Before nominating Rosenstein, either Trump failed to perform any due diligence, or Trump deliberately nominated a RINO who had the support of Obama and a huge majority of Democrat Senators.

I stand by my original thesis...

The responsibility for the Rosenstein nomination falls on Trump, and no one else.

Spoken like a true neverTrumper...You do realize it’s one man against the entire corrupt fed govt, both parties, courts & propaganda media, right?

What would you have him do exactly to confront this corruption? Fire lightening bolts from his arse?

If only we had the Canadian crusader, Count Copulot, to save us from our fate.../s

Trump promised he was going to clean out the swamp.

Instead, time and again, Trump appoints Obama holdovers to senior executive positions in his own administration, and, after ten months in office, Trump has failed to fire dozens of Obama appointees who still hold their old jobs.

If Conservatives don't tell Trump he must keep his campaign promises, who will?

I am not a Never-Trumper.

I voted for Trump in 2016, and I will vote to re-elect him in 2020, but only because he is the most Conservative candidate who has a chance of winning the election.

“If Conservatives don’t tell Trump he must keep his campaign promises, who will?”

I agree with that...The reason why I don’t come down too much on Ann Coulter for her incessant whining about the border wall.

Most people on the right can’t fully grasp the forces arrayed against Trump. When its literally one man against the totality of the corrupt state, they can ‘get’ to him anytime they want. In a million different ways.
