Amidst Plummeting Ratings and Popularity, NFL Commish Reportedly Asks for $50 mil. and Private Jet

Contract negotiations are always dicey when business is not going well. After all, what does a business leader have the right to ask for, when he’s essentially failing at his job?

Well, if you’re NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, the answer to that question is, a lot.

An anonymous NFL owner familiar with Goodell’s contract negotiations told ESPN, that Goodell has asked owners for $50 million per year, lifetime health insurance for his family, and use of a private jet, for life.

If you’re asking yourself whether it’s normal for contract proposals to become public knowledge during a negotiation? The answer to that is a definitive, no. Which begs the question: Who would leak the details?

It would seem clear that whoever leaked the info, would be connected to Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones, who has launched his own crusade against Goodell.

I would think with 50 million he can buy his own healthcare, a hospital and team of doctors and nurses available 24/7...

Is the NFL still a ‘non-profit’?

each team pays taxes. The NFL office pays taxes. So, no, it’s not a non-profit.

Please consider the source, but:
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-ends-tax-exempt-status-after-73-years-3-things-to-know/

Headline: NFL ends tax exempt status after 73 years: 3 things to know

The league office and Management Council will file returns as taxable entities for the first time since 1942.

As far as I'm concerned, I hope they are out of business in two or three years. Team I used to watch, the knelling-hawks, somebody might want to tell them that hawks are a bird of prey, and they DON'T KNELL!!!!

The source is accurate. The NFL office itself, which is very small potatoes, got tax exempt status at one time.
They rescinded it a few years ago. The individual franchises are individual companies so they are exposed to taxation and always have been.

50 mil a year and, if reports are to be believed, access to a private jet for life? It is comedy of the absurd. He has proven himself to be an utter failure. He should have hat in hand, be begging for another chance, offering a 50% or 75% voluntary pay cut. He is insane, certifiable.

I thought this was a free market which is supposed to result in disciplined markets, i.e. successful people get rewarded and failures don't.

Silly me.

What does the NFL create that’s worthwhile?

Nothing.

It is a huge waste of time.

Sports used to be about teamwork, sportsmanship, and honoring God and country.

Now it is about big paychecks to lowlife, serial abusers who are arrogant, greedy, selfish, disrespectful, dishonorable, unprincipled, and unpatriotic.

The NFL has been moving that way for years.

You’ve got hyper-sexualization being pushed in the ads and half-time performances.

You’ve got them driving out conservatives and Christians like Rush and Tim Tebow.

You’ve got the very public endorsement non-discrimination based on “sexual orientation.”

Everywhere the superbowl goes, the worst trafficking of underage prostitutes follows as they cater to the ultra-rich who seem to be addicts of the worst vices known to humanity.

The NFL has an unfair monopoly of professional football that needs to be eliminated.

...”Full title: Amidst Plummeting Ratings and Popularity, NFL Commish Reportedly Asks for $50 million and Private Jet for Life.”...

One of the most ridiculous traits about our culture is the idolatry of sports. When I think of what it's true contribution to society is, I come up blank. Some things roll around in my mind, such as someone, years ago, telling me that she had never known anyone who couldn't read but, yet, was playing football on scholarship in her college. I found myself wondering whether the young man or woman seemingly gifted in physics, chemistry or mathmetics was similarly blessed with a full scholarship to that college. I sincerely doubt it, even though it is the scientists who will ultimately cure cancer and figure out how to truly solve the worst problems of suffering that we face. I find it disgusting that anyone is receiving $50,000,000/yr plus other perks for managing a game which is for recreation only and, which, potentially may be brain damaging for most of it's players, shortening their lives and robbing them of their mental acuity. How I wish the madness could stop and reality could take over. Surely, we can recreate some other way to relieve life's stresses, at a much reduced cost.
