My buddy was camping in the Alaska outback during a caribou (I think) trip. A grizzly came into camp in the early morning hours. His camp mate seeing the bear pawing at the back of my buddies tent, fired his 375HH past the bear’s nose. He was surprised the bear did not even flinch at the noise my buddy categorized as sounding like a cannon in the dead of night. Fortunately it wandered off. I don't know if I would have had the patience to await it wandering off given its proximity. Tree huggers are an interesting breed, their notions IMO are somewhat distorted toward non human life.

I call it the Disney effect. People raised on movies where animals are just people in furry bodies have no idea how dangerous wild animals are. While I was on a tour in Canada the guide pointed out a bunch of Japanese tourists attempting to pet mountain goats. She said, “Those animals look placid but the are very stressed. Every year some tourist gets hurt or even killed trying to pet them.”
