Tehran and Baghdad have reached an agreement on a plan to export oil from Kirkuk in northern Iraq to Iran... Until recently, all oil from the fields around Kirkuk was shipped to the Turkish port of Ceyhan via a pipeline owned and operated by the Kurdistan Regional Government.

...With the Kurdistan autonomous region heavily dependent on oil revenues, chances are the government will seek to come to a mutually beneficial agreement with the central government in Baghdad.

Time to face it - Iran has just won strategic victories in Iraq and Syria. The pro-American Kurdish Regional Government has been permanently weakened by the Iranian seizure of the Kirkuk oil fields (and Iran is enriched). The Iranians have secured their long-sought road to the Mediterranean and Israeli border. Powerful Iranian surrogate militias have been established and embedded in both Iraq and Syria - and they are already well on their way to dominating those countries, as Iran now does to Lebanon with its surrogate Hizbollah. Iran is the big winner from the defeat of ISIS.

It was baked into the cake as soon as Obama and McCain created ISIS.

I think you got that wrong:

The CIA created ISIS
Obama created some other moderate jihadists
McCain created another group of moderate jihadists
then the pentagon created some more jihadists
and mossad created another 3 or 4 jihadists groups
I‘m sure that Mi5 and Mi6 also funded their favorite bands

The tragedy is that after 17 years of this foolishness, there are still Americans who risk themselves for these clowns

Let’s see if the Syrian Kurds shift their bets from the US to Iran, as the PUK did in Iraq (maybe Iran “helped” the former PUK leader Jalal Talabani to pass on, to perfectly time their policy flip for Iran’s move on Kirkuk’s strategic oil).

Popular perception over there is that the US is fickle, and frequently abandons allies, whereas Iran is reliably persistent. Also, Iran is the regional counterweight to Turkey, and the Syrian Kurds face deadly threats from Turkey. People may also just start seeing Iran as the new power on the block, that must be accommodated. Iran will push all the local leaders with bribes and credible threats.

This means war. And the USA should arm the Kurds to the teeth.

The marxist - lenninist Kurds
or
the not anymore ( honest ) marxist-lenninist Kurds
or maybe
the moderate terrorist ( we only murder gov’t officials ) Kurds
or perhaps even
the extreme terrorist ( we murder mostly women & children ) Kurds ?

Your catgories of Kurds are those of a disconnected ideologue.
They are to be rejected.

Arm the Peshmerga and give them tanks.

Let’s not forget GWB had a lot to do with this fiasco. The USA should be controlling Iraq’s oil.

pluz - hilarious

so you have your favorite brand of middle east tribesmen and they happen to be the Kurds. Good for you.

I for one agree with President Trump that we squandered $6 trillion and ruined countless American lives over there. I also agree with Presidenf Trump that we have no idea what is happening over there.

If you want to make a donation to your favorite middle east tribesmen; go right ahead; BUT do not expect the American taxpayer to throw good money after bad.

“The CIA created ISIS”

Why do people keep repeating this totally false line.

It was created totally out of innuendo which more than enough actual facts easily dispute.

I guess people repeat it merely on the false premise that in as much as it fits with a correct suspicion of the deep state it must be true. It takes no intelligence or amount of research to repeat something because it “fits” an existing bias someone has.

agree on the asessment.

Syrian Kurds know exactly what Iran is and how big the threat to them is. They do not support them. Russia has some power to protect them, hope we contribute to that too. Time will tell.

Iranian Kurds are mixed. Sunni and Shia. Obama engineered this disaster, from beginning to end.

Only bright spot in this whole mess? ISIS is ended in Syria and Iran.

But balance of power shifted to Shia’s and Iran. Beneficiary? Russian oil cartel.

Am concerned for my Syrian Kurd friends. They have done an incredible job of preserving some stability in Syria. Without them this would be much much worse. I think Trump does understand this, am sure the US military does.

“why does ( or did ) ISIS have about 1,000 US Humvees”

1. Left over and stolen in Iraq. 2. Captured in conflicts in Syria with groups the U.S. had tried to support early on as part of the “Syrian opposition”, like the Free Syrian Army. Captured in fights in Iraq against Iraq regular forces amd various Iraqi militia. And, who says the “1,000 U.S. Humvees” figure is correct, and what point in time do they say it is correct for???

“why do the Russkies and others say Washington created and supports ISIS ?”

If you were the “Russkies” and anyone they are supporting in the Middle East, wouldn’t you say that, true or not??

The U.S. assistance teams with the Kurds in Northern Syria were in lots of direct battles with ISIS long before Assad and the Russians were directly going against them.
