One of the establishment press's rules about the Donald Trump era is apparently, "There shall be no puff pieces."
The Washington Post's Simon Denyer unilaterally decided to extend this rule to Arabella Kushner, the President's young granddaughter, giving him free rein to tell readers that her wonderful singing for China's president wasn't really an unconditionally wonderful event — because, you see, she was "forced to perform."
Previous examples of potential puff pieces which have turned into digs at Trump include at least the following:
Speaking of protocol, whatever happened to "leave the kids alone"? Oh yeah, that only applies to young children associated with Democratic Party presidents.
So the Post's Denyer decided to lead his story portraying Arabella Kushner performance as a presumptively painful experience (H/T American Thinker; bolds are mine):

Force nothing, the young lady likes showing her skills.
The Washington Post is the enemy of America and all things good.
Wash Compost needs to burn.
It’s time to have mail order journalism degrees, advertised in the back of comic books, costing $50. That’s essentially the average quality that is required from American ‘journalists’ currently, so why pay for four years of college?
Depends on the child, but my sense of this is the young lady is proud of her skills and loves showing them off. Bless her for her fine work and bless her parents for being able to give her the opportunity.
What a maroon, seriously does the Washington Compost have ANY morals..hey look at that I made myself laugh..Arrabella has been learning Chinese for years according to her mother she likes the language. My nephew goes to Hebrew school and is learning Hebrew, his father only speaks to him in Hebrew while my sister talks to him in English, I guess that is being forced on him too/sarc
You know, like nunchuck skills, bo hunting skills, computer hacking skills. Guys only like girls who have great skills.
I thought it was a recording.
But he didnt force his granddaughter to read the WAPO.
Hate. They are filled with hate.
That was completely adorable.
Liberals are the devil.
Aside from the fact that she got a trip to China out of it, this was old hat for the young Miss Kushner. She performed for Mr. & Mrs. Xi when they visited the Trumps at Maralago last winter. You can tell she really enjoys performing.
Yes he forced her to perform, right after he overfed all the pretty koi fish.
I don't know any children of that age who get up on their own, grab a cup of coffee and make their own breakfast, go out and fire up the school bus, drive through the neighborhood picking up all their friends, sit down in school all day and work on their own curriculum, go home in the afternoon and prepare their own dinner, and then sit down with a beer while they check their e-mail and watch a hockey game on TV before heading off to bed.
Yea right. Like you have to force a 6 year old girl to stand in the middle of the room and command it’s attention. Don’t they do that all on their own?
I suppose she could have twerked and he could have given the Chinese people a CD of his speeches
They will not give him credit for anything!
