Fairy tale and wishful thinking.
They would have mass-raped the nuns, then cut off their ears, noses, tongues breasts and fingers, then sent them back (blinded) as examples.

The Middle East including what we call Turkey was once all Christian. Now the last Christians are being wiped out.

Sending nuns? I wish it were that easy.

I am just sick to death of rear echelon types, State Department career ‘want to be’s’ and politicos using American Flag draped coffins as career laders!!!

Flew to it, over it and went home.

Local troops. Snort. Most times, they’re worse than the enemy. Why we’re over there, and in all these third world hell holes, is pure insanity. They all hate the US. We have troubles on our own soil which need to be squelched. Fix our own first.

The local forces are our allies by day, and ISIS by night.

Same old same old.

“Think how different Afghanistan would be today if instead of soldiers we had sent nuns and made all the children attend Catholic school.“

What is crazy is if we HAD done what libs said we WOULD DO (convert, steal oil, etc.etc.) the outcome would have been much better.

Training the locals to stop ISIS from getting a foothold so we don’t have to do the heavy lifting.

How many generations do we have to train before a wee little bit sinks in? We've been digging their water wells and latrines for how many centuries and they still haven't learned which end of the shovel to use.

It’s open country, and we know all about how they operate. I don’t want to win their hearts and minds, that’s a fantasy. But we can find them and f**k them from above. It’s not rocket science. We have tons of operational intel on how they communicate, travel, hide and meet up.

I say “convert” them (into smoking craters) with Hellfires.

Tons of intel has been debriefed from freed captives like the ones below. Every time the bad guys use a cell phone or sat phone or light a fire at night we can locate them. Every pickup truck crossing the desert can be seen and followed.

Who cares about “winning their hearts and minds?” I’d rather have all the village elders too terrified to let the jihadists come in for a rest, lest the village turn into another smoking crater.

That’s how you win against these die-hard 110% committed jihadists. No other way. Look at A-stan: 80% of the GDP is direct US aid, and the Taliban is winning again.

We need a new playbook suited for the Sahara: death from above via Hellfires.

We have debriefed lots of guys like the ones below. We know all about how to find the bad guys. What we need is a change in policy to blast them instead of trying to win them with promises of aid. (See A-stan).

Yeah, your idea is going to work just swell.

That’s why A-stan has been such a resounding success.

I’m sure going down the same road will work just as well in the Sahara.

Me too. This is open desert. We know where the jihadists are, we need to will to hunt them, not try to play touchy-feely with the village elders.

The same village elders who smile by day, and take our $$$, then draw the ambush maps for the jihadists.

This is no swamp, it’s the sahara.

Every campfire is visible from outer space. Every moving pickup truck leaves a heat sig and dust plume. Every cell phone and sat phone lights up on the map. Every meeting of pickup trucks is seen.

What’s needed is the policy of using Hellfires, not young Americans on a hopelessly Quixotic mission to win them over. We can’t and won’t win their hearts and minds. We can only crush them like cockroaches.

Exactly.

Why spend all this money on High Tech Hell if you aren’t going to use it?

SOF should be kept for “unique” missions.
Not playing nursemaid to unmotivated local conscripts.
