Ever since the election of Donald Trump, electric vehicle enthusiasts feared the possibility of the federal government slashing the $7,500 federal tax credit given at the purchase of a new battery-powered car.

Now those fears are coming closer to reality as reports suggest that the program has been removed as part of the new House tax bill.

GOOD! This is nothing more than welfare-for-the-rich. Rich people can figure out how to buy their precious Teslas without the freakin' government's help.

The same should go for solar panels. The vast majority of the home units go to more affluent neighborhoods and homes.

If these technologies are so great, people should move mountains to purchase them.

To his credit, he’s called for the end of these subsidies. He thinks his cars can compete fairly in the open market. Let’s take him up on his generous offer.

It’s a silly expenditure. The future is not battery cars. Batteries are huge, bulky, expensive, temperamental, and short lived.

I’m thinking the future of transportation might be regional bus companies. GoBus is giving it a try.

GOOD!

I’m tired of paying for my neighbors $70,000 Tesla.

This is an eco-friendly bill.

You are correct. The only person I ever met who owned a Tesla was a multi-millionaire. It’s a status symbol, plain and simple.

I agree! Before our great escape from California, solar panels were going up all over - as you said, mainly in the affluent neighborhoods.

I think if a new product can’t make it with fair market competition, it’s not the time for it.

Why should Tesla get a break over the other car makers? Why should the NFL get tax breaks?

OUTSTANDING! The more we eliminate subsidies and any kind of crony capitalism the more efficient our economy will be and the more economic growth and wealth we’ll have.

MAGA!

...

Ending the credits will hurt Tesla’s competitors much more than Tesla.

It’s down a smidgen but so if the rest of the market. I don’t think Tesla really cares because they think they’ve built up enough of a brand cachet to maintain sales irrespective of tax credits.

Batteries are huge, bulky, expensive, temperamental, and short lived

They are also an environmental disaster!

I think fed solar subsidies are going away too. That’s gonna put a dent in CA.

Why should Tesla get a break over the other car makers?

...

Does that include GM’s government bailout? Does that include electric cars, natural gas cars, and hybrids made by other manufacturers?

Good. I like the idea of EVs but the only way the industry will be incentivized to make them more cost-effective is to stop receiving gummint welfare for making them otherwise.

I have a neighbor who bragged about getting the subsidies for his two top-line Teslas. He is a trust fund baby who inherited a $500 million business from his daddy.
