Congressman Says Jeff Sessions Has Recused Himself on Uranium One Deal
Big Government ^ | 11/3/17 | Kristina Wong

Attorney General Jeff Sessions told a small group of lawmakers in late September he was recused from appointing a special counsel to look into potential corruption surrounding the Uranium One deal and Fusion GPS’s work on the Trump dossier, according to one of the lawmakers present.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) told Breitbart News on Wednesday that he and other House Judiciary Committee Republicans had met with Sessions at the Justice Department on September 28 in advance of an upcoming committee hearing with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein later this month.

Gaetz said that when he asked Sessions to appoint a special counsel to investigate the 2010 Uranium One deal and Fusion GPS, the attorney general stood up, said he could not discuss the matter because he had recused himself, and walked out of the room, leaving them with a group of Rosenstein staffers “who showed no interest.”

“He said that anything that had to do with 2016 election, or Russia, or the candidates in the 2016 election, fell under the scope of his recusal, and he left the room,” Gaetz said.

Does a deputy Attorney General need Senate confirmation? If so, that might be a problem.

This is pretty bizarre. Sessions recused himself from anything relating to Russian interference in the election. As far as I can see, Uranium One is a completely unrelated case. He's essentially saying he's recusing himself from anything Clinton.

If this is true, he really does need to be fired. If he's recusing himself from investigating blatant, outright corruption, he's failed as an Attorney General, and worse, is exhibiting total dereliction of duty.

The only other thing that makes some sense is that Mueller will eventually take all of them down on Uranium One and Sessions already knows this so he can recuse himself. The only issue with that theory is Mueller’s involvement, but I guess he could always craft the charges to limit his own damage. The White House has also said they won’t remove Mueller. The faith they have in Mueller might be telling. We also have to hear from the informant.

You guys are totally missing the whole point TRUMP is at fault here as all he has to do is ask for his Sessions resignation...The question should be WHY hasn’t Trump done so?

Easy question. The Senate will never confirm a replacement for Sessions. Democrat Rosenstein would be running the entire DOJ for a year or more until a new AG was confirmed.

All senior DOJ jobs need Senate approval. A couple dozen at least.

He is intentionally blocking all Clinton activity and Uniparty issues .
He acting as the Clinton lawyer .

It's getting very Obvious .
Hiring Rosenstein was the first warning he was working for the swamp.
Rosenstein is a Obama Comey Mueller plant .

And you're going to get someone else appointed as AG, how? AG Sessions is getting a lot done on other issues. If he hadn't recused himself from "Russia, Russia, Russia" NeverTrumpers would've kept him occupied 24/7 on that show.

Is there anything that stops the HOR and/or US Senate from setting up an investigation of the dirty dealings of Obama and hillary?

This is silly.

Of course there will be an outcry if Sessions is fired, but it shouldn't stop Trump from doing it if there's cause (and dereliction of duty is a cause). FORCE Congress to make a stand against his nominee. It'll ferret out the targets for 2018 -- especially the Republicans. Make a recess appointment over the holidays. There's any number of things Trump can do here. Whining and Tweeting are those.

Lastly, Congressional investigations and hearings are absolutely worthless! Can you name even ONE instance where one of these blab-fests amounted in the end to a hill of beans?

Trump needs to take firm and decisive action here. It's past time. Doing so is not going to sway the left, the media, or the never-Trumpers one way or the other. They've already made up their minds to oppose him.

An AG has to be approved by the Senate. This is why Trump can’t fire Sessions. They would vote down any good candidate for the post.

The fact the senate has warned trump not to fire Sessions tells me he is a Uniparty plant from day one.
He almost acting as a Clinton operative .
Hiring a Mueller Obama plant like Rosenstein was a huge move to put the secret left back in charge .

Laura Ingram was speechless over the hiring of Rosenstein on the radio .
She smelled a rat and warned all listeners .

You consistently contribute & post good information, so I'm going to ask you a basic question: would Trump keep Sessions if he was truly an obstacle?

People should step back and consider the larger picture. That is, who is Trump? How did he manage to win the presidency? Was it dumb luck, tough perseverance or supernatural genius? If you think he's gifted - as I do - then how does this comport with a number of different issues.

One, he is more than certainly aware that if he doesn't defeat the deep state, they will literally kill him and his family members. So, in that regard, the deep state truly represents an existential threat. That being the case, would someone in his position impotently tweet? Or, would they fire Sessions, and damn the torpedoes?

Second, if Trump is fighting deep & powerful forces, then he must have everything in order. As LS has surmised, if Sessions plays the role of political fall guy from, then that leaves the 'sainted' Mueller to pursue Clinton and even Obama.

I realize the LS position might just be a fantasy projection, so I'm willing to consider/concede that point. But the first issue just doesn't fly. Sessions or no, Trump doesn't have the luxury of letting the deep state commit treason and get away scot free. He's in too deep himself fighting the forces of evil, and must do what he can to overcome.

Appearing the fool by merely complaining via Twitter makes absolutely no sense knowing the history of Trump and what we/he are up against. I am 100% convinced the twats are part of a larger game.

Well Sessions was the first on the Trump train connect? I rather suspect Sessions was a plant, a fail safe if Trump did win to act as a force to control Trump...Trump butted heads with Sessions and Trump was informed this is how its going to be or else we impeach you..

“Actually, if Sessions resigns, he doesn’t need approval by the Senate to appoint someone to fill the position. Under the Vacancies Reform Act, 5 U.S.C. §§ 3345-3349d , he can appoint anyone he wants as acting Attorney General.”

Interesting...sheds more light on why Sessions is refusing to step down. What a mess.
