FORT BRAGG, N.C. A military judge has begun deliberating the fate of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl after closing arguments in which prosecutors called for a 14-year prison sentence.
Its not only an appropriate sentence in this case, its what justice requires, a prosecutor, Maj. Justin Oshana, said Thursday. The prosecution is seeking the prison term, a reduction in rank and a punitive discharge.
The defense team is asking that Bergdahl be spared prison time and given a dishonorable discharge. Bergdahl pleaded guilty last month to desertion and misbehavior before the enemy.

Pathetic
Obama looks like a thorough fool.
There hasn’t been a sentence for more than 24 months for desertion since 9/11.
Maybe Bergdahl will be the first.
When you look at that picture, and think about all that has happened in the past 40 years, it is staggering.
Not nearly enough. That’s why desertion should always be a death penalty offense.
Reduction in rank???
He was promoted while AWOL!!!
FUBHO
That picture disgusts me every time I see it.
Execution would be the minimum acceptable punishment.
John Lindh got 20 years, I believe.
.30 cal through the heart.
Lindh was a private citizen when he joined Al-Queda.
Not nearly long enough.
Just shows how time passes and my memory has faded.
Wall. Blindfold.
Obama says “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.”
So those who died sear thing aren’t even worth life?
One can only hope for some jailhouse justice to supplement the obamafied “prosecutors” insult to those who risked, and gave, their lives searching for this pile of mutant DNA....I’m disgusted beyond words.
There were actually thousands of desertions during the Iraq War, I can't think of any that happened in a combat zone other than Bergdahl.
Lots of coverage back in the Cindy Sheehan era.
Lindh ended up with 20 years without parole in the high security unit in Victorville. A very rough federal prison.
Put him in general population and look the other way.
