including limits on pre-tax contributions to 401(k) plans and including repeal of ObamaCare’s individual mandate, were apparently not included

Get the tar and feathers ready - we're going to need a lot.

If Steve King is against it, it must be good for the USA.

Republicans are idiots. Total idiots.

Not that this is shocking news.

1. They buy into the democrat deception of “paying for tax cuts.”
2. They buy into the socialist mantra of progressive taxation.
3. They are lowering rates and taking away deductions so that it isn’t a tax cut.
4. The next time demoncrats are in office, they can raise rates and there will be fewer deductions, thanks to RINOpublicans.
5. They are doing their best to alienate voters in the most populous states.

I am so glad I stopped being a taxpayer.

Cut spending and voila, ............!

Just cut spending! How much is spent on the “Ad Council” and other silly programs? CUT THE SPENDING! Rather novel idea!

Stupid but sincere question:

Will I have to choose between taking either the standard deduction or the charitable contributions/property tax deductions? Can you take the standard deduction along with any other deduction, or is it strictly one or the other?

I am reading the summary of the law change and have an overall comment for those panicking about their personal tax situation and those confident they will have less taxes. There are far too many changes to know if you win or lose. Individual analysis will take a fair amount of time to determine your new tax.

I got something interesting about the change to the new 529 plans. The change recognizes and unborn child as a child:

“The provision provides that an unborn child may be treated as a designated beneficiary or an
individual under section 529 plans. An unborn child means a child in utero. A child in utero
means a member of the species homo sapiens, at any stage of development, who is carried in the
womb. “

Will delve deeper into it, but this looks better than I had feared.

Tax hikes are never good. Tax hikes on voters to pay for cuts on corporations is stupid. The GOP will get nailed by this.

Only commie statists talk this way:

"...to offset the costs of the legislation..." "...in order to pay for the legislation..."

These degenerates actually believe that the government owns everything, and that allowing the taxpayers to keep more of the wealth they produce, is a COST to the state.

Who wants to guess how many of the 70,000 pages of tax code are still there?

Class?

The tax liability on the first $90k of taxable income goes from $18,247 down to $10,800 - that's $7,447 less.

So, someone with $90k in taxable income would need to be losing ~$30k in SALT deductions, not to come out ahead.

Based on what I’m reading here and at BB, this bill is dead in the water the way it is currently written. Too many base conservatives are against it. Which is good, because I’m getting screwed big time. My taxes would go up nearly 10k. Hell no!

This will never pass.

The 12 percent rate only goes up to $45,000 for individuals. Pathetic. You need better in order to eliminate those blue state goodies without pushback.

In order to offset the costs of the legislation...

TAX CUTS DON'T COST THE GOVERNMENT ANYTHING!

Several other controversial ideas that were floated to help pay for the bill, including limits on pre-tax contributions to 401(k) plans...

No no no no no no

NO!

OK. I ran the numbers and much to my surprise I come up a winner under the new plan. To the tune of about $2500. Hell is always in the details but so far it’s looking pretty good.

A big BIG issue that folks are missing is the expanded child tax credit which, if I’m reading it correctly, will have a yuuuuge impact on upper middle class families who couldn’t make much use of it in the past. Keep in mind it’s a credit, not a deduction.
