‘Who paid for the dossier?’ doesn't matter; Russian meddling in our elections is what's important
Los Angeles Times ^ | October 27, 2017 | The Times Editorial Board

Republicans are indignant over this week’s Washington Post report that the Democratic National Committee paid for the infamous “dossier” alleging that Russia had amassed compromising information about Donald Trump and sought to help his presidential campaign.

That’s absurd. Who paid for the 35-page report compiled by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele is far less important than whether any or all of the allegations it contains are true.

If some of the allegations in the Steele dossier are accurate, it’s of small importance that they were turned up as part of an opposition research operation. And, of course, the Steele document isn’t the only source of suspicion about Russian meddling or about improper contacts between Russian operatives or intermediaries and people in the Trump orbit.

Not for the first time — remember the bogus scandal about the supposedly improper “unmasking” of Trump transition officials whose names appeared in intelligence intercepts? — the president and his allies are seizing on a sideshow to distract attention from the main event: Russian interference in last year’s election and allegations that the Trump campaign colluded in that interference — and that Trump tried to frustrate investigations of that conduct, including by firing former FBI Director James B. Comey. Neither the public nor federal investigators should be fooled into taking their eyes off the ball.

The Times editors are simply regurgitating DNC talking points.

But if the Clinton Campaign, DNC, CIA, FBI, and other Obama administration goons colluded to dig up dirt on Donald Trump - who "nobody" thought could win - did they also collude to dig up dirt on Ted Cruz, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio and other GOP candidates?

Yep, they ALL got the same memo. So unbelievably transparent; they don’t even make the smallest attempt to hide it.

Brit Steele is as much of a foreign actor meddling in US elections as any Russian.

So, let me get this straight: Trump and the Ruskies conspired to produce a fake dossier containing allegations that Trump committed obscene acts with Moscow hookers in the hope that this dossier would win the election for Trump.

Hello?

Isn't this farfetched even for the MSM?

The Russians and brit were allegedly supplying the false info. The “Meddling” and Crime was committed by the ones who paid for and used the info. This Jackass reporter has his head up the DNC/Clinton’s a$$.

Exactly. Just a meeting was enough for calls of treason trials and election.

Now? Who cares?

My fave spin was the NYT calling it an “Obama-era probe.” Obama era? You mean last year??!

What LAT seems to missing is that The Clinton Campaign, and the DNC commissioned a foreign agent to draft a fake document concerning Trump, and then used the FBI, U.S. intelligence agencies, and the Obama administration as a whole to give this document legitimacy. Furthermore, this was used at a FISA court as an excuse to spy on Trump.

This reminds me of the idiotic, pathetic sequence of rationalization we've seen time and time again when it comes to wrongdoing by Democrats in high places.

Here's a perfect example:

1. Trump: "Obama 'wiretapped' me!"

2. DNC Talking Point #1: "This is an outrageous accusation with no evidence to support it."

3. Over the course of 2-3 months, facts come out even in leftist media outlets confirming the essence of the original statement.

4. DNC Talking Point #2: "See? Trump was wrong. Obama never wiretapped anyone. Nobody uses wiretaps anymore. He ordered the FBI and/or NSA to use electronic surveillance methods."

Based on this pattern of stupidity and political maneuvering, here's how I expect a similar story to unfold:

1. Trump: "Hillary Clinton signed off on the sale of 20% of our uranium assets, in exchange for $145 million in donations to the Clinton Foundation.!"

2. DNC Talking Point #1: "This is an outrageous accusation with no evidence to support it."

3. Over the course of 2-3 months, facts come out even in leftist media outlets confirming the essence of the original statement.

4. DNC Talking Point #2: "See? Trump was wrong. It was $143 million, not $145 million."

In that case, all that matters is whether what’s in those e-mails is true. And what that proves.

Also, according to the author of the dossier, much of the highly negative information about Trump in that document came from Russian government officials. The same Russians that Hillary claims colluded with Trump to get him elected. Let that sink in. Take all the time you need.

When is was a “Trump is illegitimate” mantra, the details mattered. Now that there is proof Hillary is a liar and a crook, part of the scam, details are suddenly unimportant. Leftists disgust me.

Russians interfere...how? By giving the public access to DNC emails showing what Hillary REALLY believes? Good on ‘em!

And the hypocrisy is pretty deep. The USA favors certain candidates. Obama made it very clear who he favored in elections in Israel. But of course, Obama cannot make a mistake, let alone do wrong, to the editors of the LA Times.
