White House: Flake’s Speech Attacking Trump Was Not ‘Befitting of the Senate Floor’
Washington Free Beacon ^ | 10/24/17 | Cameron Cawthorne

Posted on 10/24/2017 2:35:42 PM PDT by markomalley

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Tuesday that Sen. Jeff Flake's (R., Ariz.) speech minutes earlier attacking President Donald Trump was "not befitting of the Senate floor."

Flake announced shortly before the White House press briefing that he will not run for reelection in 2018.

"Here's the bottom line: The path that I would have to travel to get the Republican nomination is a path I'm not willing to take, and that I can't in good conscience take," Flake told the Arizona Republic in a telephone interview. "It would require me to believe in positions I don't hold on such issues as trade and immigration and it would require me to condone behavior that I cannot condone."

Flake then spoke on the Senate floor for over 15 minutes about his decision not to seek another term, castigating Trump's behavior as "reckless" and "undignified."

Sanders dismissed Flake's speech as "petty" and said that he would not have been able to win reelection because his support in Arizona was waning. She was later asked by a reporter during the press briefing to specifically point to parts of the speech that she thought were "petty."

"I thought that his attacks and a lot of the comments that he made—I don't have a readout in front of me, but as I was watching it, I noticed that a lot of  the language, I didn't think was befitting of the Senate floor," Sanders said.

In recent months, Trump has criticized Flake multiple times on Twitter, writing that he is "weak on crime."

Flake is PROOF that Trump has tapped into a unifying American force: We’re TIRED of uncontrolled immigration.

Flake is with Trump on EVERY OTHER issue...

Trump is the ONLY person in politics who reflects the mood of the American PEOPLE on immigration.

It will sustain him...no matter the attacks.

Flake is an open border SOROS lover..of course he doesn’t like Trump..if Trump wins Flake will no longer get to employ his illegal alien maids..notice this, behind every open border supporter is an illegal alien that works for them

Not a fan of Flake BUT if you call me a ‘toxic person weak on immigration & crime and not worthy of the Senate’ please don’t expect me to tell you to ‘have a nice day’ and invite you home for dinner.

If the President wants to personally attack someone he and his staff best be expecting some flack back.

OTOH as much backbone and spine that has NOT been exhibited recently, I guess a response is sort of unexpected, at least a HARSH response.

He ran on them 5 years ago. No way an Az senator ran on open borders 5 years ago and won.

So, we’ve already established Flake is a liar. Why trust anything else he says.

President Trump has smoked out two RINOs in the month of October. You da man Mr. President. And he did it with his cell phone and a Twitter account. WOW! He isn’t through yet.

Doesn’t it really depend on the truth of the President’s statements? If somebody hits you dead to rights a smart person shuts their mouth & doesn’t double down à la Flake.

RINOS melting down provides me a fine sense of long awaited satisfaction. It is thoroughly enjoyable to hear their collective PRIMAL SCREAM as they head over the cliff side.

Corker, Flake and McCain are all but politically buried. Bush 43 and that whole drag-along dynasty of theirs have been exposed as the globalists they are and their Rovian shell game is smashed.

God is with us. How else could one man change the course of a nation engulfed in Godlessness and all of its effects. Thanks be to God.

Sort of reminiscent of

If everyone thinks you are an idiot don’t open your mouth and remove all doubt.

My ‘point’ is that if PDT goes after someone, don’t act like the Libs and get your panties in an uproar when the ‘target’ responds.

"Here's the bottom line: The path that I would have to travel to get the Republican nomination is a path I'm not willing to take, and that I can't in good conscience take," Flake told the Arizona Republic

1. So he is admitting that his positions on issues are not winning positions?

2. So he is admitting he actually considered adopting positions that are not his own in order to win?

3. Does Flake blame himself for not being able to get elected or does he just flail out and blame others?

On multiple levels this is a pathetic speech. It makes him look bad but it also makes the Republican Party itself look bad by association. We can't have losers like this in the Republican Party. This is way beyond just being a RINO or a liberal with a R by their name. This guy is a LOSER and not worthy of being a politician of any party at any level.

Trying to remember even a single time when a Republican senator similarly attacked Obama on the Senate floor.

Can someone help me out?

“He ran on them 5 years ago. No way an Az senator ran on open borders 5 years ago and won. So, we’ve already established Flake is a liar. Why trust anything else he says.”

Exactly right. Flake in the past has pulled the same election year fraud that McCainiac is famous for—posing as an immigration hawk. As soon as the election would be over, both of them were back in the thick of the amnesty pack.

The only difference is that Flake knows he wasn’t going to be able to get by with it this time and didn’t want to go out with a big loss in the history books.

“It would require me to believe in positions I don’t hold on such issues as trade and immigration”

Yep, supporting Trump would require GOPe swamp creatures like Flake to believe we should enforce our nation's border laws and put American citizens first. That's way too painful for globalism-first traitors like Flake to stomach. So good riddance to him and the rest of his internationalist comrades.

Good riddance.

Another RINO, that says one thing when he’s trying to get elected or when there’s a democrat POTUS, but another when he actually is expected to deliver.

If Flake wants to blame someone other than himself, he should blame his colleague and senior Senator from his state, John McCain. Flake’s fate was sealed when McCain stepped in and sabotaged the repeal and replace effort on Obamacare. Any remaining chance of hanging on was doomed after that. Do they not realize that if they were implementing the agenda they promised, these primary challenges would not have any legs?

“Bannon the Cannon had something to do with it, too.”

Absolutely.

You know that when a guy like Roger Wicker dresses down Corker for his anti-Trump statements, particularly after Bannon has met with Chris McDaniel, Wicker is figuring out he may involuntarily join the list of Republican Senators out of work come Jan. 2019.
