That's the real stake through the heart. The NFL didn't come to be overnight. It is the product of one of the most successful long-term marketing campaigns on the planet. This campaign has lasted more than half a century. That's a lot of building.
One can understand a certain assumption on Goodell's part that such a giant may not be brought down by a sling stone, and indeed, it would be difficult to imagine any single thing that would be quite as effective at doing so as the one the political activists carefully chose. "Oh, look, we've found the hot button!" Yep. Push it at your own risk.
There is, to be sure, a core of besotted and addicted fans who will forgive the NFL anything so long as they get their entertainment fix. I'm fine with that; there was once a passionate and now forgotten following for polo. As Nolte says, nobody got mad at them, they just stopped caring.
Not before Roger milked hundreds of millions in salary out of them, however.
I used to care alot but now I don’t care one bit for the NFL. Those spoiled brat America haters can take their footballs and shove them.

Goodell, the son of an ex-Republican anti-Viet Nam War US Senator from New York, is trying to use the NFL National Anthem issue to bring down Trump. He is willing to sacrifice NFL revenues to do so.
I lost interest in the NFL some years ago. The teams I watched like the Bears have been real stinkers/doormats for years. Sports like golf and auto racing go deep into the NFL schedule. There are plenty of alternatives these days to the NFL to burn time on crappy fall/winter weekends.

If Goodell was smart, he’d trade all of his America-hating thugs to teams like North Korea, Cuba, Iran, Syria, Venezuela and Africa for one ‘refugee’ and a future draft pick. That would make most AMERICANS happy.

That would be surprising for a politicians kid married to another politicians kid, but it doesn't take some kind of ideological superplot for somebody in business to assume that people are going to go on wanting the product, regardless of what's going on outside game time.
True, there's some blindness involved in that. There's always a chance that if enough players are beating people up off the field that viewers will turn off the NFL, but if that didn't happen with all the other scandals, it may have been natural to assume that the league would survive Colin Kaepernick.
It's really not even all about the fabricated story from BLMers. The truth of the matter is more about that many liberal blacks and even whites have been indoctrinated in school to hate America for many idiotic, communistic, anti-capitalist reasons.
The 'hands up, don't shoot' meme is just being used as an excuse to vent their real feelings and hatred of America, its history, its law enforcement, its flag, its national anthem, but especially their hatred and racism and resentment towards white people. Yes, it's about their racism. Its a clinical case of transference plain and simple. Accusing others of what they are guilty of in spades (no pun intended).
