Nolte: Roger Goodell Fell for Mainstream Media’s Fake Reality and Destroyed NFL (Possibly Forever)
Breitbart.com ^ | 21 Oct 2017 | John Nolte

Posted on 10/21/2017 10:48:34 AM PDT by Rockitz

When the first half of the 21st century is way back enough for a history to be written unencumbered by agenda, President Barack Obama will be remembered as the worst thing that ever happened to the Democrat Party. And to the NFL.*

If you think that is a stretch, hear me out…

Thanks to George W. Bush’s terrible second term, two unbelievably awful Republican opponents in John McCain and Mitt Romney, not to mention the charisma and impressive political skills as the most leftwing senator in the country, Barry O won two national elections and did so by impressive margins.

The problem is that America’s so-called Smart People misread these victories. And by “Smart People,” I am, of course, sarcastically referring to Democrats, the imbecilic Republican establishment, and the corrupt national media — all of whom deluded themselves into believing that Obama’s victory meant that the country had not just moved to the left, but to the far left.

Buoyed by this mistaken belief, not only did the Democrat Party move to the far-left (Warren, Bernie, Hillary 7.0, etc), so did the media. Over Obama’s eight years, among others, the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, and MSNBC believed they were capturing a zeitgeist by hiring tons of rabid leftwing propagandists, a freak show that includes Ana Navarro, Philip Bump, Jake Tapper, Chris Cillizza, Jemele Harris, Chris Cuomo, Al Sharpton, Rachel Maddow, Joy Reid…

ESPN was so sure of this, it went from a rock n’ roll sports network to MSESPN.

Agreed with this article. They misjudged that most Americans had gone far left. Many people voted for Obama due to disgust with Bush or because they weren’t fully informed due to the mainstream media.

I always liked Nolte as an actor...glad to see he’s an excellent columnist and recovered alcoholic, too.

I like the way Nolte describes it, “Fake Reality”.

“If you think that is a stretch, hear me out… “

No stretch at all.

President Barack Obama will be remembered as the worst thing that ever happened to the:
Democrat Party
NFL
Americans
women
children
blacks
Europeans
economy
cars
health
on and on and on...

The only he did that worked out for us:

They created an environment where ordinary people couldn’t speak out and then congratulated themselves that those people had gone away. We had not gone away.

Well stated.

The NFL will never recover.

+++++

My wife is a perfect example. Since childhood, thanks to a tradition handed down by her father, the Green Bay Packers has been one of the great passions of her life — until this season. And this is what should really terrify Goodell…

My wife’s lost passion is not a political statement or protest. Her passion died a natural death as she watched something she once loved betray her country. She is not angry. She just stopped caring.

How does the NFL recover from that, from indifference, from those who have moved on?

The NFL isn’t going to recover from this from a long time — if at all. I’ve said for a while now that most of the fans who claim to be “boycotting” the NFL were already sick of pro football for a number of reasons but just stayed involved out of habit. This national anthem debacle gave them a perfect excuse to walk away from it while making a principled stand.

They use everything and anything to distract from the Demorats Hillary, Obama, Congressional Leaders and the rest from being exposed....

....to keep the truth from the American people. Creating 'stories' and media pushing it on the public, along with the timelines they expect to run

before the next 'story' is released to do likewise.... Round and round we go!

Excellent point.

I know some have said that fans will come back.

But, if the NFL loses, say 10% or more of fans permanently, both in terms of ticket sales, and TV ratings, that’s a big financial hit to the teams.

I’ve heard there are “giveback” provisions, if that’s a proper term to use, in the TV contracts and advertising sales rates, such that if the ratings on TV aren’t a certain minimal level, then the sponsors will get refunds, and/or free ad time somewhere else in the networks’ schedules, to make it up.

I’ve heard the gross TV revenue, to the NFL from all networks, is about $7 billion a year. If we say that there’s a 10% decline in viewers, then the NFL could lose roughly $700 million in TV income, as the networks find their ratings decline and ad revenue isn’t what was projected?

Am I missing something? Are the rights fees paid by networks to the NFL a hard amount, a guaranteed amount regardless of ratings? I had heard that the amounts depend on the ratings. Which until now, nobody ever thought we would see big declines in the TV ratings.

I’m still hoping the NFL goes Thelma and Louise and announces they will stop playing the National Anthem altogether!

Football, and the heroes coming from poor backgrounds into fame and wealth, is part of what makes America great. A sport can become a big business and make money for millions of cottage industries springing up around it. Football has been a huge American Dream story since it started.

And they want to kill the goose over a complete fabrication.

Indeed. Goodell was an elitist, media, deep-state insider. He saw no problem allowing Kaepernick and the SJW’s to have their spotlight, because his out-of-touch self believed we rubes in flyover country would always put up our money for his product.

Trump simply pointed this out - and made the NFL choose. Its still early days, the NFL is still struggling with this.
